From his friend and fellow rocketeer, Alex Tremulis. He cared enough to keep these safe for the rest of his life...

  2. Sometimes technical people do not worship fame like the public does.
It is because they are involved for thier technical abilty and are even sometimes unaware of the signifcance. Nor do they seek fame.
I will tell you a story that happened to me many years ago early in my career. I was on the phone to the Camfather, Ed Iskenderian and he was talking to me about "the young fellow down the road who plays with six cylinders." He couldnt remember his name even though it appeared they had done some business. I ran a couple of names by him. Guess who he was talking about. Kay Sissel! Ed was more involved in the technical side. This is typical.
So this unassuming fellow may have been involved in the Blue Flame development but it may not have been the high point of his life, just part of his occupation.
My own father designed the radios for the Avro Arrow. First aircraft radio with hundreds of channel instead of the usual handful. This very famous plane of 53 years ago in Canada is now even being considered for reproduction since it still can outfly anything current (twice as fast, 20,000 feet higher and twice as manuverable are the technical specs). I remember when dad was the engineering lead on these radios at Collins Radio of Canada. He would probably never say much to anyone but when I do they look at me with Sure! Right! sarcastic comments. BUT the truth is not a democracy. That fact that a majority dont believe it has absolutley NOTHING to do with is it the truth or not. I would give the guy the benifit of the doubt and spend time getting the whole story over a cup or so of coffee rather then worrying that it cant be true because you know him and if he did all that there should be a sign on his lawn of something. Which BTW is ridiculous when you think about it.
He might be actually telling you the truth.
