Thanks Ryan, and thank you Dale Shaw for sharing your story. Always refreshing to see how far out the boundaries of "traditional" really are. The individuality, the one-off, the ingenuity is what gets me excited the most in this fantastic auto world we're swimming in. Well, some of us are swimming. Ryan and some others are deep-sea diving.

East coast hotrod rebuilt in the hill country . . . great car !

Reading the handwritten note makes this post really something special. So does the car, of course. Love that grille protector idea.

    Thanks, you guys!

Awesome story and awesome inspiration!!!!! That's the same motor to a "T" that I'm putting in my '35. I found a set of Early Offy Staggered VC's with two finns ground off the back and I couldn't help but imagine that they were off an old Hot Rod like this early on. What a cool Hot Rod!

Here's my stuff I'm sending to polisher for my '56 "Corvette" motor....

Oh and I am still trying to figure out a way to get a ride in a Ferrari. I think I need new friends haha!!

  7. Man that's the perfect 32. Among the goodies the Du-Coil caught my eye !! And the letter kinda chokes you up !! Very good story for sure !!! >>>>.

  8. That is an awesome roadster, I'm a real*****er for channelled roadsters. Reminds me of the cars that were featured in early Australian Hot Rod mags. :D

  9. That's one******in' purple deuce roadster, I love the fact they cut down a stock firewall to fit the channeled body, plus getting the opportunity to read about the cars history from a handwritten note, is just plain cool!

    Thanks Ryan.

Great story and history on a beautiful roadster. Thanks for sharing. As much as I love Ferraris, hot rods will ALWAYS steal the show for me!

The handwritten note really makes you think about how much this car meant.

    Glad this one survived.

I went to high school with Dale Shaw.

Tall, gorgeous, freckle-faced redhead with enormous breasts.

Now that I think about it, might have been a different Dale Shaw.

Ron owns the car now and has for years. He bought it from Dale Shaw who wrote that note while he was still with us. It really is a great car. I'd love to see what it looked like with the flathead...wonder what wheels it had as well? Ron is the perfect care taker. He is meticulous! He takes such good care of it and understands its significance. He also likes to share it with people and isn't afraid to drive it. The amount of chrome under this car is quite a site. I hope you all get a chance to see it in person if you haven't already. I'm sure it will be at the Roundup next year.
Thanks Ron for sharing the car with us.

PS Ferrari's are really fun to drive.

I first saw this car in Dec. 1964, when it was owned by Ernie Vince. At that time, it had steel wheels, baby moons, and wide white walls on it. Ernie sold it to George Chatterton, who had it for several years. I think Mr. Shaw bought it from him. It was my belief that the running gear parts came from the late Lynn Wineland's '32 roadster. as the body on that car ended up on another '32 chassis that was owned by Bob {Gump} Andrews. I've known Don Broyles for about 45 years. He is a craftsman of the highest order and has turned out some amazing machinery. He has some pictures of his old roadster, with the flathead. I will see If I might be able to scan them.

If you could share those images with us, that would be incredible. Please let Don know that his roadster is in good hands. I'd love to share those pics with the current owner.
    Thanks!
