Thanks for asking, but I'm still here! I was in the shop grinding on stuff and not looking out the doors. It was sunny with a few clouds when I went in and about 102 degrees or so. About an hour later the big front doors THWACKED closed, and I looked out and it looked like 9:00pm, with a mixture of dust and rain falling sideways! Oh, and about 70 degrees, too. After all that the rain came, and it was like each drop was a five gallon bucket being emptied as it hit. I live on a turn of the century street with the tall curbs, and after about 20 minutes my street was full level to the curbs on each side. It was insane!

Next time I shoot some front yard backdrop pictures you guys'll freak, 'cause my 9 foot tall prickly pear cactus that you see so much of are all about 3 feet tall now. I found some of them two yards over. Oh, it also took out an entire intersection of stop lights about a block away...

Yup, here's that rain you ordered... All at once!

Well, if the thread was posted about it on the HAMB, it would probably have a bunch of guys crying, then whining, then it would get deleted.

By the way, in the background of the shot of that gold T I posted is a yellow grill shell. Pretty sure I have another earlier shot that shows most of the bucket that grill shell is attached to. I'll post it in the next day or so.

    Hey, Chip;
Glad you didn't get the opportunity to go surfin' down main st - along w/your house, T, garage n stuff, + everything else... I gotta say, I think I'm glad *I* don't have to chase down & replant those cacti - they look rather deadly.
The pink T: 1st time I saw a pic was from the 2nd street rod nats, in Detroit? That rake gives me a headache... :).

My opinion on windshields. Short and vertical. These cars were, and never will be, about aerodynamics. Wear glasses for the bugs and keep your mouth closed. Every time I see a T Bucket, with that Total Performance angled wind shield, I think to myself, "He should add a big ass wing, too. That'll be worth another .5 mph." A leaned back windshield also takes up interior space. Yup. It limits how far forward you can lean over. Try it, but not while driving.

I've said it before and here it is again, "Stripped down and fast". That's it.

As far as the rain stuff, we are now into the time of year that here in the NW, we dont make jokes about the weather anymore. Hell we dont even talk about it. I remember hearing somewhere that Seattle has the highest suicide rate in North America, and most of them are in the winter...
I was shocked when I woke up this morning. Its not raining. Heavy overcast, and threatening more rain, probably in the next hour, but at this moment ITS NOT RAINING!!

I like 'em tall. If you are gonna defy the laws of physics, then DEFY them DAMMIT, dont be wishy-washy about it!:D Besides that, I think its part of what makes a T-bucket a T-Bucket, instead of a track roadster.

    Hey, FG;
Yea, rain & weird weather here, too. Late Sept & Oct weather is just psyco - & fickle too. Then thru & into Apr it's just vicious. Knew some folks in NW Washington state, they'd say: "You can't tan in Washington, but you do rust." & when the sun would show for a bit, they'd joke about sacrificing a virgin. From what I've read, you're correct about the suicides in Wash. Lack of sunlight is a very real issue (SAD). Using light boxes or proper light color/freq does help, but it isn't the same as real sunlight - & a whole lot of it. It's amazing just how fast the mood can/will change w/cloudy days - even only one or two. & can change back w/a couple of sunny days. It actually *isn't* funny...

& w/Ts using tall w/s, isn't that why the big/powerful (read: hotrodded) engines are needed? :D . See, a reason for everything. Or at least plausible deniability... :D .

Had a real good buddy that move out to Portland Or. from Miami Fla. after to years with about two or three weeks of total sunshine an frezzing his butt off,he ask if I'd fly out there to see the sites an help drive U-Hual back to Florida. Mount Hood was neat, sure was a bigger bump then we got in Fla.

No, it really isn't funny. Hell it affects me a bit too, and I have been here all my life. What really makes it brutal is that you are a fair ways north of the equator, so the days get VERY short in the winter, the sun is fully set around 4.30 in the afternoon. Thats why I go to Vietnam every January. A month of first-rate restaurants, 4 star hotels at $40 a night, roaming in the mountains checking out fantastic 1500 yr old ruins, day trips to tropical islands and lounging on virtually empty empty beachs in 80 deg. weather does wonders for the winter blues!:D
But man, Spring and Summer here MORE than make up for the miserable, shitty winters! Sunlight till 10 at night, 80 degree days, lush green forests, and breezes off the ocean.

We spend all year praying to the gods for a cloudy day! Sometimes mother desert gives lots more than we bargain for!

While you guys up north are just tucking away your bikes and roadsters, most that are sensible down here are just pulling them out! I have had more than a few seasoned hot rodders here in town tell me that I am nuts for driving a roadster all summer. It definitely can be a life ending deal if you aren't prepared or have trouble. Pretty rare you see somebody on a bike here in the summer time as well.

Best part though, is NOW is the time for things to explode around here!!! EVERYBODY is tired of being inside for the last four months, and the weather just dipped below 100 on Saturday after the storms, so it's party time! From here on out, there are about 4-6 different shows in the Phoenix area on any given weekend, and usually 2-3 swaps as well. The town is so damned big, that you can drive 40 miles in any direction, never leave town, and yet be in a completely different group of hot rodders and cars that you have never seen before, so going to some of the shows outside of your neighborhood is always an adventure.

I took a quick ride last night, and in the cool of the evening (about 75 or so) it was almost jacket time.... My favorite time of year!

Yea, I remember you saying this last year. Around here, Ocean Park is really the last big show, thats why everyone goes. Around here, the scene completely shuts down from October to February. We get a few nice days, but its pretty rare to see anything other than daily drivers after Oct. 1st. Alot of guys even take full insurance off thier cars and just buy storage insurance for the winter.

110* thats crazy, we never had above 88*. :shockO
Summertime average is 70-80*. Last year summer fell on a tuesday. This year we had all most two weeks.
    Winter average is between 10-40*.
That we get for 20-25 weeks :(

Some guys have all the luck!
That is also a contrabuting fact to why open cars is so rare, and we have so about two or tree bucket. :(

Man, if any of you guys find yourself around here on New Year's day, make sure you call me! Gasser Steve came up with an all day New Year's cruise that is flat addictive! Last year about 15 of us took a 120 mile round trip to a town that is just outside of the North Eastern city limits that was a roadhouse/commercial out post/stage stop back in the late 1800s called Tortilla Flats. Beautiful place, along the lower Salt River Canyon. This year, the back way to Prescott, AZ., where we will probably see a bit of snow, but has a few Vistas you could never believe!

We also do a fun cruise for our hot rod "family" on Thanks Giving morning before everybody goes to relatives homes. This one is up South Mountain and usually draws about 25-30 cars.

I'll probably have an open seat for both...

Louversville, AZ? Sounds like you've got a place worth cruising to appreciate!

One thing about the winters here, you really hunker down with your family.
Yea, Alberta guys always like to brag about winter. Thats because when you compare Alberta and BC, that and cheap real estate are the only things Alberta can brag about...:D:D;)
My mom grew up in Woking, just north of Grand Prairie (just realized, Blue One is probably the only one on here who knows thats in Northern Alberta), she has a photo of her house that was taken in winter sometime in the late 1940's. Not much of a picture really, all you can see is a bump in a field of snow with a chimney sticking out, and a tunnel leading down to the front door! And yes, I'm serious!

Funny, this morning I was all doom and gloom about the weather, it was actually one of those rare fall days where the sun burns through all the grey morning mist, and you end up with sunhine and high cumulus clouds. It was spectacular. And to put icing on the cake, Emilys kindergarten teacher gave the kids a homework assignment to gather fall leaves for an art project. We just spent about an hour of serious quality time in the park at the end of our street collecting different coloured leaves. I am not looking forward to her growing up...:(

Ok, real long shot, but I am going to try this here. Tried this on the original thread almost a year ago, no-one responded. Early seventies rod run in the SE. Heres the original photo as posted...
And heres a blow-up of the INCREDIBLY bitchin early sixties lime gold bob-tailed T in the background! Lime gold paint, tank behind the bucket, chrome reverses, t grill shell, and white upholstery, thats all I can make out. Anyone know anything about this car? Looks alot like Roths Tweetie Pie with a longer wheelbase.

And while we're here, I know its way O/T, but look at that black nova with the cheapo stamped steel slots and white brake drums! YEA Baby!!

  23. lol....I just pulled the Harley out of the garage this week. 61 this morning and 90-something this afternoon! Getting the tan back...

Someone, somewhere has a great picture of that gold T. Wish they would see this thread and post it!

  25. I have to jump in here...I live in the peace river area up here in northern alberta as well, not that far from woking and the winters here can be brutal. I'm still trying to figure out how it can snow at -45.....

On the upside in the summer it never really gets dark.

Chip, I am late to this latest party, but Don Audel is a long time Spokane, Wash. resident, Dukes car club member, pinstriper, artist, all around great guy. AND still owns the T, & will forever, Stude power,, Has or has had lots of NICE cars.. Bob

  28. Now guys, I have just noticed the green T parked behind and as somebody just mentioned about confussing angles upsetting the overall look of the car, well the roof lines on that green T does that exactly. The roof line is going down towards the rear yet the body line is going up, as I have mentioned before, they should be parallel or the roof line only slightly higher at the rear to show the overall rake of the car.

My mom always used to talk about how beautiful summers were in the peace river area...And how brutal the winters were! Back in the forties, it was pretty common for guys coming home with a few beers in them to get lost in the snow and die of exposure. My mom used to get all teary eyed watching Dr Zhivago, not because it was so romantic, the winter scenes made her homesick!!

  30. She's right, it's a love hate with the seasons here. Summers are beautiful and the days are long, but yea the winters suck!! Now we just need more car guys up here!
