Hey Paul, I finaly found that shot of my mates Hemi (354) Bucket. Sorry for the poor quality, 30 yr old photo taken with *****ty camera. Its the same car that I posted before with the early Mopar in it. We both got it to 150mph. Sadly its no more as it got parted out after Martin sold it and some of the Hemi is now in Mousies 32-3W. Never heart that song before. Quiet funny. Didn't he the Group W clue.

Don't think I ever gone become a alto fan, as much as I'm a woody fan.

    But funny, non the less.

    What's on the B-side?

Harv...If we were all at Chip`s House for this Imaginery Barbeque, I`d make sure to bring my Front Axle to give you so you could do your magic with it....I`d also give Kurt huge Thanks if he had pictures of Bud`s T with him, and I`d have to act as an Interpreter for Mark and Jeremy. Don`t know if I could do the same for Brynk...He`d probably be out joyriding with Gary most of the time anyway......Boy, It would be quite the event. Mike, Nitro-Bro and all the Arizonians, Miss Judy`s Cultural Additions, Chips Handcuffs....Larry yelling at everyone, Missy`s Dad getting all academic....Tim impressing us with his GenX Computer skills......Well, maybe we really can get most of us together at LARS....Still about a 50/50 proposition for me this year Though. The trip to NZ is a biggie, and I`m also going to SEMA for the first time in almost 25 years......May have to put more hours in......o_O:p:D

Hmmm......"Chip's Picnic"...could be epic. Definitely don't want to park on his street, what with all the crazy neighbors who use the "navigate by feel" approach to driving.

  11. Now that would be a fun event Paul and as for me in the "Group" I'll just be playing the Fool. Oh thanks too Paul for being the interpreter as I think I would need that help. ;)

The BBQ at my joint sounds like some of the most fun to be had! Been a bit (since the last mini bike "Louver Alley Fun Run" in November of 2012) that I have had a crowd around this joint, and I miss it badly! I'd have to get the Go Kart running, and dust off my "Top Gear" board and stop watch so everybody could do lap times. Everybody in the neighborhood and most of our friends had a lap time in the Go Kart at one time or another. One of the claw foot tubs full of ice and, well, beverages, and gotta get the latest mini bike up too! I could regale once again the story of the evening Judy hit the 21 story building at the end of the alley on the Go Kart... Ya she did.
Best thing though, I am one of the best damned grill masters you'd ever wish to come in contact with! I don't often photograph food, but look at these rib eyes and lobster tails...

If any of you guys are ever here, let me know. I'm serious. I enjoy entertaining, and I do wish the BBQ could happen at some point. Just let me know your coming...

I can confirm that Chip's steaks are amazing. I'm all in favor of a thang at Chip's, but August in PHX might not be the best time to do an outside activity!

Yeah, Chip...Twist the knife a bit more...I`m looking at the Article in question as I type this. I`m a bit distracted by the Rib Eyes, though. Don`t eat much Red Meat anymore, but I`d go for one of those .....I`d also pay to see Miss Judy Throttle that Go Kart....

Firmed up the engine deal a bit more today. I can get a `56 265 in really good shape but apart, or a 78 350 that I can make look old. Flywheel comes with either, and I`m thinking of using a 4x4 S10 conversion with the shortened torque tube. Will be calling on the rearend again this week. Think I have a `48 with 3.78 gears coming. I`ll pick it up at the Portland Swap.....

This thread has allowed me to view all the various styles and to better understand the historical progression of the "T" bucket and which style cranks me up, I've spent the last several years collecting parts for a bucket, so far '50 Merc wheels, 32 heavy beam axle, suspension pieces, a full set of 50's S&W NOS gauges , new Corvair steering box and a pile of so called period collect SBC parts. I'm hoping this will be the year to the find the right body at the Portland Swap Meet this year as I'll be set up there all 3 days , just have to decide between a bucket and touring car.

"Maybe I should keep my mouth shut but I won't"

Paul don't cheat. Get the 265 and put an early floor shift behind it. Every corner I've cut on my roadster by using later than '50s parts I've regretting and changed later. Okay that's a lie. The Econoline top loader with the Jeep shifter I still really like. But it's not a full cheat. It is a real floor shift. See how I justify one of my last cheats left on my roadster. You won't need an O.D. anyway with that engine, 3.78 gears and 8.20X15 tires in back. In fact with multiple carbs. that engine will probably load up below 2500 RPM. That's the same gears I have in my roadster. Find an old Packard or maybe an old Buick trans. like DeBenictus used. He told me all he had to do to make it fit was drill two holes, and the Buick's had a closed drive line. I'll bet you could get one for a couple of hundred.

I say these things because "I love you man" and I'm the kind of**** hole who thinks he knows more about your build than you.:):(

Man, ain't this a can o' worms! Mostly because it is the eternal struggle for "traditional" hot rodders. Yup, how much to "cheat". I've got two builds going at the moment and I agonize with every decision on both of them.

Not my only criteria, but an important one, is the seminal question: How much do I like being towed home on the end of a hook? Yup, it's easy to talk "traditional" but it's a whole 'nuther perspective when your period-correct jalopy breaks down in Bumsteer, Texas, with only one parts store filled with blister-pack tuner trinkets and a vacant field which was once a wrecking yard but was put out of business back in the '60s by Lady Bird Johnson.

A Triple-A card will get me home, but does it really solve the problem? And so I agonize...

Wow Dad I couldn't have put it better. I probably couldn't put it as well.

Talking about Paul"s build. It seems he is committed to the banjo diff. and with the 265 and an old big car floorshift the rear end would probably be the weak link and probably the only thing that might strand him.

When I put the Cad. engine in mine I was through driving it long distances and really am not as comfortable with it being as dependable as with the SBF.
