I think Yank dates back to the Revolutionary war. England vs U.S. Rebels Limeies vs Yanks. Or WWII England "Yanks overpaid, oversexed and over here".
And this thread goes on another tangent.

Nothing personal intended,*****...honest! Many auto show goers are not at all sophisticated about cars, they look at the shiny paint, the chrome, the displays and the doo-dads but don't have a clue about the rest of it all. Those are the people I was talking about, and they surely talked about those wild and pointless pipes for weeks if not months...prolly would have talked about 'em even longer if they'd been chromed!

Well I like it Jalopy! Now there is something different and nice. That's old style. I'm thinking '30s. Kinda like what Eastwood was sitting in.Your right the cowl and grill shell are perfect.

Wow! I leave you guys alone a bit and stuff happens.... Then slows down! Kiwi awesomeness for sure, and starting this thread a long time ago now, I asked sort of the same question... Where have these all gone? From the early sixties to the late seventies EVERY hot rod and street rod magazine in America had a 'bucket in it. They were immensely popular. Most just needed to be tweaked a little to be happy with todays world.

I have been nose down this week, as it is the first week in a month were I have really felt well enough to work as hard as I am used to. Stuff is piling up around here, and no matter how many time I throw away bills, they send more. I will continue to be spotty around here at best for the next week or so, so bear with me a bit and stuff will get back on track.

I got in last night from Roy's house just before dark. Now, you guys have heard me****** up a storm about having coil overs under this car, as that was something that Roy insisted on at the time I put it all together, and I tried hard to talk him out of them. Well, part of that reason was the fact that they ride like HELL under these light weight cars. I scored some 95lbs spring a couple of weeks ago at a swap here locally, and finally got a minute to slide them under the car. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I mean DAMN, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Not perfect, but certainly less "crunchy" than before. I also didn't realize that the fronts of my rear hair pins have been klackin' into the floor of the car for some time now. As soon as I can afford a stick of 7/8" .156 wall DOM I'll be making up a set of triangular shaped rear bars. That'll solve that, and the one part hanging down that drives me nuts.

    We'll talk more soon.

Coilover's can ride as smooth as anyother type of set up,its all about spring rate an angle an were there mounted . I actuly like transvres leaf at each end myself like I have on my own rod,but that is more about what I like eye wise then about ride. The rear of my son's 23T is on coils that ride very well, but are layed over pretty good to give them that ride. 8639949_orig.jpg

Slows down? Hell, don't know why my computer decided to stop showing me stuff three pages back when I posted that! It reminds me of a quote I heard in a rally race team years ago that was "I AM their leader, I MUST catch up to them!"...

Oh, and ya on that Kiwi 'bucket for sale, you guys nailed it down the line. I feel like I'm getting in some heads kinda!

Oh, and lest we forget, here are two of the coolest 'bucket's PERIOD, in my humble opinion - both out Kiwi land! It's gotta be something in the water down there I tells ya!

That red one rocks my boat! That A-ish windscreen, the longer bed, the fact that it's so level and on steelies.
The other one made me thing of the kookie car but it's a roadster tail. But damn near perfect.

  12. These cars belong to Scrounger CC members, the blue ones owner is a Hamber, and while not sure of the red one, I'm guessing the owner is too.
These guys are right into the traditional thing, a Kiwi equivalent of the Rolling bones, or Shifters.
KiwiKev is also a member, so we do have********** traditional Hot Rodders here, who have been doing this for years.
You would think with all the buckets built in the late 60s, early 70s, that more would be getting the old school treatment, and I'd like to think this could be happening more and more, world wide.

The second photo have been my favorit desktop background for long time now.
    A fantastic picture.

  14. Both of those T's were built by Chris Piaggi the part owner of the blue one. I personally don't like the way the screen is laid back on the red one but, hey, it isn't mine . The bridge is known as the Coat Hanger and is the main bridge over the harbour in Auckland City.

I met Chris last year at a swap down my way, he seemed to know me, at least my RPU and that I have Willys. He is a clever builder and has always been into traditional ways. JW

Those 2 are, pardon my language,*****ing Awesome!! Both of 'em. I really like the Kookie influenced one, but are both 'very 50's' to steal a phrase from Falcon George. And both have me considering unloading the cab of my beat A rpu/really a tub front half and using a T Body on my A frame. Maybe :)

Well Brad that's what Grabowski did (ditch the A body and install a T) and it seemed to work for him. But I'm not really sure it's the T bodies that make these buckets so appealing. They just are right. Not sure I really like the blue ones flames (a little too perfect)but that's just me. Their are a lot of T buckets but few nice A buckets. I'd kinda like to see what you come up with. I really think the same rules apply.

To be sure, the same rules apply regarding proportion, cowl to grille shell relationship, length of engine bay, etc. etc. For some time I've really been leaning to something very similar to the lil primered, closed cab A pickup shown a few pages back, 'cept in rpu form. Maybe I can hack together a half-assed sketch of what I have in mind. I'm not ready to do a mock-up, I'm too A.D.D. and I need to stay focused on the Pontiac, I'm so close...

Also, I saw the pics of the 2 Kiwi built cars initially on my shoe-phone, so tiny pics. I like 'em even more now that I can see them. Is that an FE in the red car? Oh my...

My guess is Blue one has a Flathead Ford V8 3x2 n with fanzy headcovers, and the Red one has a SBF 5.0{302 wFI

On looking again, Dana, methinks yer right on the money. The red car's mill just looks too narrow to be an FE. Wishful thinking on my part, I wanted to see an FE I guess. Still, super cool car. And whom should appear after Gary mentions nice A buckets, but Dana.

  24. You are correct about the SBF in the red one. The fuel injection is just a new addition as when first on the road it had a 4 barrel manifold with an adaptor carrying 2 x 97's which looke darn good too.

  25. Damn I forgot to post this from todays cruise I made to a couple of different rod runs. Now I realise Gary was getting bored with our Kiwi T Buckets but I had to show this one as it is set up for the handicap owner to drive. I realise or so that it doesn't really fit in with what this thread is all about but it is interesting too. The last picture is of a T that I thought wasn't too far from perfection. 26. Yes, I was careful not to get carried away posting those buckets, that was only a small amount I uncovered, so believe that that was me exercising restraint!

  27. Not sure what's going on with the red, white, and blue T, is that a shifter outside the body? I thought it was a hand control at first, but that appears to be attached to the steering column. The purple T is pretty good looking car! It has virtually every change I suggested for the low buck T. I kinda like the paint on the patriotic T reminds me of another T here I've seen on here. Similar to this one, but not the one I was thinking of.

The shifter is on the outside because his left hand would be on the brake. The lever on the steering column is accelerator and brake and yes the purple one is nice. JW:)
