My T is still in it's original gel-coat white. Everytime I think about painting it, I scuff my heels getting in and out or something gets laid against it. So, as long as the gel-coat looks decent, it'll keep. But ONE DAY, I swear, it will get painted.

Fred, thats exactly why my Dart wagon is still wearing its 30 year old (guessing) gold repaint and blue hood and right fender. Every time I think about shiny paint, I remember polishing and fretting over the shiny dark blue '67 Cuda i owned a few years ago.

Glad to hear I'm not the only guy that's tired of polishing cars. I've discovered wash and wax car cleaner. Does a good enough job for me but then I don't build and drive show cars. Trying to get up the inspiration to clean my roadster for LARS. Fuck it it's clean enough to get through gate one. I did repaint the headers though.

All this talk of A shells on T's is going to drive Chip crazy! Of course I like 'em too!

This is a big part of why I'm not going with a conventional paint job on my bobtail T. I want it to be a fair weather daily driver, and with my mobility issues, doing a lot of polishing is not an option. The plasti dip alternative is durable, repairable, and just requires an occasional wipe-down with a trigger spray protectant. If I make the body easy to remove, a refresher coat every 3 years or so should not be too hard.

I know this will put a lot of folks here off...I'm planning on going with a somewhere between satin and matte finish. My fictitious background story for this little car is that it's a post WWII track car that has been recycled to a budget hot rod. To my mind, an old track car is not likely to have a deep glossy paint job. It would be more about function than flash. I'm even considering a number meatball on the doors <shrug>

In the long run, it's what makes YOU smile. Not the cool kids. Do what you can to make YOUR vision, YOUR reality.

In my older age, I look back and laugh at all the time my brother and I spent cleaning, waxing and polishing our cars. Then parking them. Dodging puddles and rain clouds. Now, I do like my T Bucket to look good. Vanity can be a bitch, but I just can't wrap myself around being scared to drive or park her, for fear of getting a scratch.

  10. Certainly no joy in that Fred, and who really wants to own a car that one is too afraid to take out of the garage when there is a cloud or two in the sky. Heck, look at Chips T Roadster, I don't think it has ever seen the inside of a fully enclosed workshop or garage and yet we all here admire what he has done to it and we all look forward to seeing it painted which even then, it will still have the same lifestyle.

Yup...that's going to be mine to. We don't even have a garage to put it in. It will be built in the driveway, and live there with a tonneau cover for the passenger compartment. Hopefully there will be enough shed space to store it in the winter...if not it will be a car cover.

    Hey gang!

I'm here, I'm alive! I promise. I'm sorry I walked away for a bit, but damn life got tricky there! Still is. Business is booming, and I have been working a zillion hours to try and keep up. I have had three fairly major projects cross my path in the last couple of months that have had lots of stuff added on, and taken far longer than anticipated.

Judy has had a another major surgery, and has now been accepted by the Mayo clinic for her problems. Far worse though, in the wake of having to let our beloved Cockapoo Mr. Hei hei Chan go in March, our younger dog, Rocky Chan, was diagnosed with cancer in May. He's short timing at this point, and I have been spending lots of time with him - even moved one of his beds out to the shop next to the press. He and I have been taking late night blasts in the 'Bucket when ever he feels good enough to do them. He still loves to hang his head out the passenger side and bark at all he sees.

Because of his situation, and because of the back log in the shop, I have come to a rather monumental decision... After 26 L.A.R.S. shows in a row, I'm gonna skip one. It's one of the harder things I have ever done, 'cause that show is "Christmas" for me, but I just don't feel right leaving right now. I have so much stuff to accomplish, and so little time with left with my best buddy. I'm sorry I'm going to miss you guys from New Zealand that came up, but I just can't leave right now. H

Have a good time everybody, Chip

Chip, you definitely have been missed but many have stepped up and done what they can to keep this thread running on the straight and narrow. Sorry to hear about your best buddy, enjoy your time together as much as you can. Hope the Mayo Clinic can help Miss Judy with her problems. You and yours will be in my prayers. Good news that you are busy, that is what pays the bills.

Norm's neice was trying to sell the original 'HENWAY' to anyone interested a short time ago, before and after Norm's death.
Do a search and find her posts. You may be able to get the real thing.
Sure miss Norm..."I always thought I'd see him again..."

Well...It wouldn't improve the steering mast angle/height, but could sure use the wheelbase! :D

Thanks gang! I'm so sorry to miss the show, but I just flat have to.

After I wrote my last past, my Buddy Ronnie called, and admitted he couldn't get his "B" powered Modified to start, so he wasn't going either... I jumped in the 'Bucket ran over and had stuff sorted as quick as I could. I might not make it, but I'll be damned if I see him work as hard as he has to finish his car and not go!

Hope miss Judy is ok. Sorry to hear about Rocky Chan. I wanted to go would have been my first, but I just have too much to deal with here.

Best wishes to the family Chip. As mentioned, good on you for taking care of what's most important first. Hope everyone that's going has a great time at the LARS.

Just loaded some picture this morning to update my clients, and I shot my first video last night after I cured Ronnie's starting problems with the modified. After a day where NOTHING went right, and week when NOTHING went right, it was damned fulfilling to twiddle some wrenches for 5 minutes where others have toiled all week and get some results.... Sometime I genuinely don't suck!

But wait! Sometimes I do, 'cause the little video I shot yesterday loaded and worked just fine on my Face Book page this morning. Well Hell, take a second and go over there to HOT ROD CENTRAL LOUVER CO. Face Book and hear Ronnie's way hopper banger do it's song. Or, even better, just hit the link at the bottom of the post...

@need louvers ? Sorry to hear about Miss Judy and Rocky Chan. I lost my best buddy Hannah Lou in January and since then her little sister Shiva (my avatar) has developed kidney disease and is short timing as well. Like you, I spend time with her on her good days and care for her on the bad days. My thoughts are with you and when life settles a bit, you can catch us up. Being busy in the shop is a good thing, if all the customers are paying on time. ;)

  27. Chip, sorry to here about Miss Judy and Rocky Chan....praying for the best for both of them. Our Luke is on the short timers plan as well, but he keeps surprisin us. Savor every minute you can, because you never know how long you've got left.

Man, it sucks.... My dogs to me are as important as most people's kids. Rocky is the first face I see in the morning, and the last I see at night, as he has slept between Judy and I since he was about 8 weeks old.

Enough about how shitty things have been lately, though. I didn't jump back on to cry about what a shitty year it's been. Just so much stuff going on in such a short time frame, that it's been front and center, whereas the 'Bucket just hasn't been. I've been working on so many O/T projects lately that I really haven't had much to contribute to this thread.

    That's gonna change though, soon...

Hang in there Chip. Sorry to read of your lady's troubles, and your pup's decline. Hopefully both will be feeling better soon. Keep up the good fight!
