Projects The bucket of ugly! A de-uglifying thread...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by need louvers ?, Aug 14, 2013.

  1. Purpose made cheater slicks? Heck, when I was growin' up we used wore-out snow tires. Recaps were best because they were wider and the recap rubber was softer. Dang technology. Hard to believe how stuff's changed, ain' it.

Prolly just as well. Y'all's T wouldn't be much less ugly with wore out snow tires on the back, now would it.

  3. Well, the tits part of the equation did remarkably well with her antifreeze babtism! Mostly (I think) because she had her eyes shut putting her sunglasses on when it blew! Just took it down to Walmart and back, it did fine going down, but it got to 200 comong back up to Alpine (the Alpine grade is my torture test), and I "SHOULD" have been happy with that! But no, I decided to go "full monty" and got back on 8 and blasted up from Tavern to East Willows (other side of Viejas), and that got it all the way to 225. Got off and drove it 1/2 mile or so at slower speeds (30) to see if it would cool down, but it didn't. So I pulled over under a nice shady oak tree and let it cool back down to 180, then drovd it home. Stayed cool coming back home (3 miles or so), but once it cools completely off, I'm going to change the thermostat. Car sat a LONG time, and I figure it can't hurt.

  4. Chip, this ones for you! Not quite a driveshaft, but some minor cleaning supplies to start getting all this damn antifreeze off!

  5. All that "WAS" clean! Well, after blowing up the pic on a screen bigger than my phone, I look like an ass because it still looks pretty good. It looks much worse in person. It's bad enough my wife (NOT a car person) actually wanted to help clean it.

Looks good! Cars are for usin'!
I came home from grocery shopping the other night looking about the same. Been wiring this '40 for the last week and with my wiring basket, heat gun, small tool box and misc parts strewn about in the cockpit the 'Bucket has looked quite full all week.

  7. Well, looks like the cleaning will and polishing will have to wait. I blew a wheel cylinder yesterday ( well, maybe not blown, as I still have brakes, but it's leaking now) as well. Washing and waxing the paint to make sure there aren't any stray drops of brake fluid anywhere eating into the paint. I need to put the Plymouth back together today, and get this thing into the shop so I can work on it.

Tire soap! I had a guy on another board (Face Book '47-'54 chevy truck group, if you must know) accuse me of being an elitist, bolt on, deep pockets, hands off kinda guy. I'm gonna send him that picture right away....

Alright Chip not a lot of ugly left. Shit I'm having a hard time finding fault and you know how much that pisses me off. See you in a few days. I'm even beginning to like the shifter. Your welcome Judy.

I can't write a full review for these tires quite yet. I did take a couple mile blast on them, and I gotta say I'm diggin' them big time! The car feels a hell of a lot smoother to drive, and I'm wondering if my big Firestones were really all that round.

One thing that was super cool, these tire feature inside balance packs vulcanized into them, so about 4oz of Dyna beads and they are rock solid smooth. I do like that a bit better than my old Hurst tires. Appearance wise these things are awesome, as they smooth the side walls on the outside.
As far as the real deal, I'll let you know tomorrow when I hit the freeway over to Scottsdale and my client's house.

One last one from today. I wish I could explain how beautiful my Palo Verde tree is right now! Everything is covered in these tiny, bright yellow flowers. SAM_6166.JPG
