Well, I had to run out to our local MacDonald's to pick up a bag of ice a little bit ago... Funny thing, it was just before 9pm, it just went below 100 out there and the night felt so nice that rather than take that left and go the last 3 blocks, I went straight and tore around down town for a bit! Cruised down Monroe and rattled the windows of Saint Mary's, past the Civic Center and all the shiny new office buildings down town just to listen to the pipes rattle things... and back up Central. So nice just to enjoy driving this car sometimes in my city, 'cause lord knows that last couple of weeks of a 25 mile one way commute to do this wiring project has been murder in 110 degrees and no cloud cover. makes me kinda wish that Judy had come with.... Or at least Rocky the Schnauzer. Oh, I did remember to get the bag of ice, too.

Hey, another thought before I settle down and watch "The Wild Bunch" on TCM. I am pretty much dead set on my bright orange for this car. That's the way I have always envisioned it. But, if it was yours, what color would you go for the body and interior? I'm just sort of curious what you guys think...

Well, you know I have had a t bucket with my sbf stuck in my head for quite a while now, and I have something pretty definite in mind. My thoughts have been Naples Orange with gold pearl, and silver grey pearl upholstery on (if I can make them fit) sixties style low-back fiberglass buckets I have a mold), narrow 1" verticle pleats on the seats and around the inside of the bucket. But I havent found a modern source for the grey pearl vinyl yet. I have seen it on a few sixties era race cars back in the day. So DONT do silver grey, its MY IDEA, and I'll be PISSED if everyone says "oh, he copied that car I saw on the HAMB."

  4. Something subtle, like a Bright Orange, would be classy.

  5. Vega orange, Black interior with "The great Pumpkin" across the tail gate!!!

  6. My next one's gonna be either Kandy or Metallic Emerald Green w/ a beige or brown interior.

  7. And the '27 roadster pickup's probably going to be Duplicolor Hugger Orange Lacquer, since I bought 6 quarts of it for $8.00 a piece at O'reilly's right after they bought out Kragens. I will probably shoot some gold pearl over it in the clear to give it some pop!

I almost went with the nice bright metallic blue. Similar to the Subaru WRX blue. With white with blue piping interior.

The problem with black interior in sunny locations, is it turns into an oven very quick. I had black/grey interior for one season, never again.

falcongeorge: Sounds like a cool combo. Silver vinyl was an original color on '64-'66 Vettes;try Al Knoch for yardage . Fuzzy Knight: What orange was your '29 when Holmquist had it? (one of my favorite R&C covers) Chip: You already know my prefered color choice!

1453530_563131940428224_1790206350_n.jpg I like black best, but Love most OJ shades except burnt[too dark],as for upholstery;lite shade of brown/ beige=a complamenty color to OJ, an dosen't show dirt much and get too hot in the sun to cook your butt off.
I did white inside my son's Blue T for him [he insised on it],but it is PITA to keep clean but cool to set on + plus looks fantasic clean.
There is not room really for most buckets in a bucket,I like them with bench style seat and that will also let you move around much better in the rod.
    Old tech I did on seats;

  13. Yup, I like white interiors a lot, but I'm just not the right guy to have one....I work on my stuff too much! I have a hard enough time just keeping the white inserts on the Plymouth's seats clean!

keeping with your era/theme? or just in general?

I'd love you see yours in the current ford comp orange (not too horribly bright) & a black interior...but I know how hot mine gets in ohio.

Myself, I really like a med-dark teal these days, solid, not metallic/pearl.

Chip, I was thinking about white with hugger orange last night, but I wouldn't do a stark, clean white if you go that route, more of an ivory, maybe something along the lines of Wimbolton White? It has some brown in it that would help take some of the edge off, and pull it in with the orange a little more?

Yup George, you nailed it. It'll be a slightly off white by just a shade or two to kinda mellow things out a bit, and Wimbledon White is the suspension color I have picked already.

'Peach, what ever time frame you want to think about, I'm just looking for some other ideas that I might have not thought about. Early sixties, of course, would be preferred .

perfect....my brain couldn't get past stark white.

Take a look at this. This is that car that Bill Fredricks had in the late sixties, with the cammer.
This is very much along the lines of what I am thinking, Tony Nancy style narrow box pleats with a real sixties race car feel. I dont know how comfortable you are in race buckets, they are a love/hate kind of thing, some guys think they are horrible, some others (like me, for instance), find the extra support more comfortable than sliding around on a cushy bench seat.
He has REALLY curved the seat bottom upwards at the front because the rear-end housing is there, but a slightly less radical curved seat bottom will sit you in the car instead of on it, and give your thighs extra support in that "knees up" t-bucket posture, and it has that race car look that I think works really well in a sixties theme t-bucket. I might pass on the chute release though, maybe a bit TOO race car for a mild 350...:)
Personally, I'd probably just go black with the hugger orange.

A little more food for thought. Check out how low he sits in the car.

I get that the chassis in this car is a lot more radical than a typical 2x3 t bucket chassis, but by going to split buckets, you can drop the seat bottoms between the rails and have the driveshaft pass between them (unless you have a really big ass, LOL).

  23. Well, I kinda like it George, but where is Judy gonna sit? :D

Chip, we have all kind of been writing off the idea of doing the interior in orange and white, but grab #60 TRJ and take a look at the interior in that Bianchi built coupe. Its orange with off-white (pretty close to Wimbolton White actually) inserts, and it actually looks pretty damn good. Not as over the top as you might expect it to be. The more I think about it, that might really work well, especially if you are doing Wimbolton White on the running gear. You ARE doing early sixties, thats not an era known for its subtlety.

By the way, for those that are not familiar with the '56 Packard Naples Orange I have been babbling about, thats the color on the Bianchi coupe. VERY popular shade of orange for hot rods right up through the sixties.

Yep I can't think of a faster way to lose my license than one of these things.

  28. Yep, and now I recognize the car. A very good friend of mine's older brother owned one of the other two street legal FED's I know of beside his (the black T with blue stripes that's pictured on here on the street legal FED post) and.his half responsible for my infacuation with them! For some reason (old eyes and a small phone screen mostly), I could have sworn it was a center steer, single seat car earlier.

  29. Don Kendall's best engineered T was '70s style, but I liked the color combination. This might be too red, though.

I do LOVE the little fiberglass low back racing shell seats personally, all but one thing. Here in Phoenix it quickly turns into a sweat bucket that your ass has to ride around in when you drive for 4 months out of the year. Bench seats are MUCH cooler to ride on, and you don't walk around looking like you wet your pants 24/7. They really are a very slick way to get some support and get down in the car in these little things, as I have run them in a couple other small cars like this. They look neat too! Always remind me of Monogram's Big "T" kit.

Like I said earlier, I am pretty much set on the color scheme. The white interior in my mind is one of the hallmarks of the late fifties and early sixties cars, as they were very popular. Looking over old magazines shows dark interior colors starting to come around in the mid to later sixties. And, as George said, the early sixties weren't know for subtle cars!

The other thing to note is the interior on this car will be JUST white, with maybe a touch of orange piping sewn in. I am stealing a page from Steel Rebel's book and going with a very minimal 1/2" rebond carpet padding for the seat back, and nothing much in the way of pleats or rolls or any other stuff that will take passenger room out of the car. It fits me just fine as it sits, and I have and do drive it all day without any sort of padding back there - a little will make it that more comfortable.
