Lost brothers separated at birth. Think I said that before, didn't I?

Gary, you gotta go next year, because it will probably be my first.

Oh and you know how I stay home and sulk every year because Rick, Keith, Chip, Gary et-al are in LA, and I'm not? Well, this year, while you guys were cavorting around the fairgrounds having fun, I hooked into a very SOLID lead on a rare (4 figure production numbers), open, early Ford. So THIS YEAR, I aint sulkin', I'm GLAD I wasn't in LA on fathers day! Not gonna say more until I'm sure I've put a deal together, but I think I have got my teeth into some seriously choice early Ford sheetmetal...

Okay guys I've got something for you to work towards. My group is pretty much burnt out and not going in 2015. and I need an insinuative to go to LARS next year. Yous guys get your shit together and get roadsters ready to drive through gate one with me then and I might have the incentive to go next year.

I already pmed Chip and blurted it out. I been sitting on it since Friday morning, if I didnt tell SOMEONE I was gonna bust a roid. Hell, I havent even seen a pic yet, it might be a steaming pile of dung(but I dont think so, I've seen other cars hes worked on in bare metal, and if he says its straight and pretty much rust free, I tend to believe him.) From here on in, I'm gonna keep my mouth shut till money changes hand. Well I'll probably blurt it out next time I talk to Keith...

    patience grasshopper, patience...
Honestly didnt expect to generate quite such a fuss, but I guess Chips response got everyone wound up a bit. It IS pretty fuggin cool, though...
Tell you what, its a done deal at this point, so when I get some pics, I'll post a couple on this thread. The car owner is going to push it outside and shoot a few, but it probably wont happen till the weekend.
Its going to be quite some time before I actually get the car to my place, the guy is a good friend, we have been in communication for 15 years regarding the car he just bought from my dad (That one is REALLY rare, 1 of 3, two surviving) and is dealing on a second ( we are looking at a trade), so theres no rush to get everything squared away, and the car is 3000 miles away!!

  17. Did you get your valve covers and breathers assembled and installed?

Well, ya, one! It's a uni-Vette for tonight until tomorrow! I had to go out and get a 1/2 Phenolic spacer to control fuel boil anyway and today was the first chance I had to do as such. Tomorrow "endlessearth's" truck gets it's tach, and the bucket gets it's spacer and it's second Corvette Valve cover and offy breather thanks to your keen eyes.

Just so everybody is up to speed about what Nitrobrother and I are yammering about, My sole purchase at L.A.R.S. was a pair of the ugliest late eighties spec Edelbrock valve covers for 35.00. They were so heinous I didn't notice the Offenhauser 90 degree 5 1/2" breathers hanging off of them that I had been hunting for since last fall! Andy pointed 'em out to me!

I warn you, the next picture might just cause you to loose sleep... Be assured that the valve covers them selves have already been committed to scrap where they will never have a chance at darkening another small block Chevy! And, yes there are two breathers. I just got in such a hurry to get them free of the ugly valve covers that I forgot to shoot them before taking them apart. I only had the heart and stomach to mock one back up! SAM_6363.JPG Now, a quick bit of other business.... Anybody remember when I posted a gathering of a couple of friends car's on my street this spring? The little Bantam that some one cut out of the picture and said would be Bitchin' if it had the right tires and wheels? Ring any bells?

Well, Roy finally let me loose on ordering tires and finding wheels! Vintage Fenton "Hustler IIIs" and Towel City radial recap in 10x29.5 to the rescue!!! See, this was my evil plan all along! Now I'm working on him for a pair of Rebel Wheel co.'s Halibrand spindle mount look alikes...

Blownfuel, earlier you asked about steering columns for these. I just finished Roy's today for the glass touring. This time around we went stainless steel, and please keep in mind it hasn't been fully ground out yet.

I make them from 1 1/2" exhaust tubing most frequently, then trundle my butt down to Ace hardware or Az Bearing Belt and Chain and pick up 8.00 worth of bearings. The shaft is a chunk of 3/4" cold rolled, the lower is a 21.00 Flaming River Corvair coupler, and the upper is a Wilwood 25.00 quick release for the steering wheel that gets roll pinned and set screwed (with sh SAM_6370.JPG allow detents drilled in the shaft for security) in place so that it can be removed for service. This one will get a bit of presentational grinding from me, then get down to Fernando's metal polishing for shine...

    How could I forget! BITCHEN!!
Funny swap meet story. About 25 years ago, I managed to score an NOS never run Holley 950 3bbl. I had this friend who was nuts over it, wanted it so bad, and I was NOT gonna part with it (still have it). So about two years later him and I are at this swap meet, and I am walking along and theres this old Ford pu, with the box just loaded to the gunnels with all kinds rusty, used up, worn out old shit, all piled helter skelter with no prices on anything, but sitting in there is another complete 950 3bbl. Now, honestly, I wanted another one, but I knew my buddy wanted one real bad. I wasn't gonna just point at it and say "hey look, a 950 3bbl", but I wanted to give him a chance at it, so I said "hey, take a look in the box of this truck, theres some good stuff in here" he glances at it and scoffs at me, "ha, nothin' to see there, just a truckload of garbage". OOOOOOkay. So we walk on, go inside, buy a few assorted goodies. As we are heading out, I notice the guy is still there and so is the carb, so I say to my buddy, "hey, lets go check out this guys stuff, he might have something YOU need". The idiot says "you go look at that crap if you want, theres nothing there I want, Im gonna go put my stuff in the car". So I walk up to the guy, "hey, how much you want for the 3 bbl?" All of a sudden my buddy is "hey! What? Where? I want that!" in the meantime, the old guy says $25, and I am whipping out my cash, and saying to my buddy, "hey, I told you TWICE to take a look, and you told me to piss off, its MINE now."
It was a pretty quiet ride home, other than my chuckling, and his "just shut up, ya smug bastard".

Chip, those Towel City slicks look very well made. Anyone out there run their Trac Master Classic treaded tire? They look like they would be a good '60s look street tire.

I'm really interested in those as well. Nice looking tire, and I'm betting if you asked them to, they would do a set in a soft compound. Vintage looks, streetracer hook! I'm all over THAT!

That Bantam is so cool. And I love the Towel City tires. The only way that Bantam would be neater is would be with me driving it :)

So, I walked out of the Ace Hardware on 7th and Missouri an hour or so ago, to a guy standing in the shade in front of the 'Bucket. As I walked up, steering wheel in hand he said "You must be Chip. You're almost famous you know!!!" I laughed and asked from where and he said "Well, I've read all 80some pages of the H.A.M.B. about this car, and I figured if I kept my eyes open I'd see it around town!" Mike the lurker, ya made my day man! Oh, and sign up and join in.... Best zombie bite you can get. getting into the hot rod thing is easy, it's a bit of work to get one up and rolling, but there are plenty of us around to help make that happen....
