Mine really are plenty soft! I used to be able to smoke the Firestones on this thing without even really trying, but now it just flat hooks no matter what I do.

Edit, Not sure why it didn't insert the quote, but this is in reference to Falcon George's statement about tire stickiness... Nothin' else soft about me, no sir.

Some guys may not realize that those guys have been in the circle track business forever. I used to see thier ads in Stock Car Racing loooong before all this "traditional stuff" started, they know a thing or three about making racing recaps.

:) Probably for more $ than I would want to put out right now :)

It reminds me strongly of a little hot rod bantam a buddy had many years ago in high school.
    So cool

My problem with swap meets and other times is not letting people know what I'm looking for. When the guy who built my engine finished it, I gave it a good shake down run to the "Houston Burnout". I noticed I was getting a little blow-by and decided to get a set of side breathers for the valve covers.

I found a pair like the ones Louver has, but they were out of my price range at the time. So, I ordered a set of Speedway brands, installed them and all was good. A few weeks later, I'm at my buddies and he notices them.

"Those will work.", he says, "But THESE would have looked better." Yup, they were the vintage Offenhauser's and he would have taken practically nothing for them.

Oh man. I really wanted a stock automatic column shifter in my off-topic '66 chevy II. This was back when I was heavy into the 10 wide racing thing. So I make a public announcement at a CPSA meeting, talk to virtually EVERY freaking guy in the club I can think of, post an ad on the wall in the john at Mission raceway, hunt the swaps for 6 months, nothing, nada, zip. So finally, I find one on the internet in F@#$ing NEW HAMPSHIRE, pay more in shipping than I pay for the freaking column, but I'm all happy, 'cause I finally got my column.
So I'm out at the track the next weekend, talking to sofaking (long story) who races a '66 chevy II, was AT THE FREAKING CLUB MEETING when I announced I was looking for one, and I tell him I FINALLY got the column I was hunting for, and he says "aw shit, why didn't you ask me, I got one in my garage, i woulda gave it to you for nothing." I just about strangled him!

    George...
That same thing happened to me in '58. At the weekly meeting of "The Wheelin' Saints".
    Me: "Anybody got a 4 jugger for a 59AB?"
    Everybody: Nobody...nothing.
An elder member of the Igniters in Santa Clara says "Borrow this one from me, Mikey...Give it back when you find one." Alphonso, a saint. I accepted.

2 weeks later: Got Deuce running, had to wait to polish Al's 4 jugger, but got 'er done.
Dropped by the 'Wheelin Saints meeting to show the car off...one of the members said, "I got a 4 jugger just like that! Know anybody that wants to buy it?"
Jerk was there when I asked...but I got it for $15, so it was O.K.
Woulda been way better if I didn't hafta polish it like I did Al's just 2 weeks before!!!
I got real good at polishing 4 juggers...Al LOVED his when I gave it back!
    Grrrrrr....

  9. I don't know why your so down on those Edelbrock V/C's, Chip, there great! You just give them a quick hair cut in the band saw, and bingo! Instant valve adjusting covers! :D

  10. I'll talk.to.you more.about.the column thing later this week. Thanks for posting that up. I got my car back together Wed., and took it to the local Wed. Night cruise as a shakedown run. The ride down was fine, but on the way back home it started running a little warm, and then the headlights started going dim. I quickly checked the voltmeter, and it was only reading 10 volts (I was paying WAY to much attention to the temp. gauge, not the other gauges!) My first thought was I lost the belt, but no, it was there and tight. I got back on it today, cleaned all the ground connections, checked and tightened a few others, but it was too late to test it tonight. Going to have to test it on the way to the fair tomorrow!

Frustrating day with 'Ugly today, but all petty stuff and I'll explain later. In the mean time I was perusing ElPolacko's thread about the M.F'ing hot rod and came across a video I forgot about. Since he has a photographic memory for band names and songs, I'll let him root out the good stuff and I'll steal it at will...

So uh, for mine, I'm figuring on a roughly 400hp 289, a toploader, T-bolt style lift bars and 4.89's. So you figure I should be looking for a roll of circa 1966 NOS duct tape and a couple of foot long round lead bars???:D

I hadn't checked in on this thread in a while and I'm glad I came across this. The T looks awesome! I bet it's a blast to cruise around town in.

Well, it's about 107 out, I just finished a customer's hood and I'm trying to cool down before I head back out and work on the 'Bucket a bit.... Since I have been thinking about music a bit in the last couple of days, here is a video that I helped with a bit, starring a cast of friends and acquaintances! The shorter of the 2 G-men super / heroes is our own Jeem, along with his illustrations and buggy. My part? Ever tried to teach two skinny teen age Luche Libres to ride mini bikes in the desert on a hot day? Yup, mini bike wrangler/teacher....

  22. There was one here at the big 3 swap meet back in Feb., but it was a LOT of money, and quite honestly, the blower itself didn't appear to be in that good of shape. The rotors looked pretty trashed, and I couldn't find anyone that makes them. But that got me to thinking, since the rotors are basically just hollow aluminum excursions with the end pieces pressed (and I believe pinned) in place, could you cut down a set of 6-71 rotors fit? I think that would work, but not sure. I believe the reason the one here was so expensive was because it had a complete Cragar drive on it.

Some days it's all I can think about putting a 471 under the hood of our 46. I don't know why, it's tiny and is stupid expensive to snag a snout and manifold.

But dang! A pulley with multiple small belts and a single carb would be just Bitchin to show off when you check the oil!

Cmon Chip, you know you want it, quit screwing around and buy the 2-holer. Then you'll HAVE to get the blower. Besides, with those old lady 3.08s in the back, your gonna need one to overcome the advantage those 4.89s are gonna give me...:p

  28. Well, I guessing the old multi v-belt drive would cost a pretty penny, but I thought the bearing plates, covers, and drive component were interchangable between a 4-71 and a 6-71?

You may have the advantage with those gears up to about 60 MPH, after that he will pass you like you dumped it in reverse :D
