Hot Rods The car I've been waiting for

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wheeldog57, May 8, 2024.

  1. It's so cool, and it's a challenge to get it out of a basement. I will be following along with the basement special. ( car name maybe)

My nephew texted me yesterday "would a 57 392 interest you, maybe for the 33?"
Ummmm yup! Today after work my brother and his family delivered a good looking block and rebuilt heads, rocker shafts, and valve covers. I will have lots of questions 20240531_205249.jpg 20240531_205315.jpg 20240531_205334.jpg 20240531_205455.jpg

  5. Jesus Ron! First you find a 33 Ford coupe now you come up with a 392 hemi, next you'll be telling us you found someone selling $100 bills for 5 dollars apiece.

You have a GREAT brother. No matter what he did to you when you were kids, this makes up for it!

  8. Many houses at least in my area have a small garage built into the basement. As years go on many people close up the garage door and just put a regular door in the close off wall. Looks like what happened here. Possible when they did it here they had no intention of getting rid of the ford

Damn WheelDog, you must be livin' right! Good on ya, keep the good juju flowin.
My buddy played many years of pro baseball. He always had a rough, tough, wrinkled look and was stocky with wild hair. They nicknamed him "Cave Dweller" and that was over the years shortened to "Dweller" which just fit. I vote for Dweller.

Awsome score . I’ve got some fiberglass 34 stuff around here , if needed. But most steel parts are available.

What a score! It's always fun to hear about someone actually coming up with a car that has been out of sight for decades. Good for you.

Not much happening with the 33 but I have made some big decisions on how it is to be built. Stock floor and subrails, not channeled.
    Today I visited with @onekoolkat1950.
Ray does some amazing work on some crispy New England cars and I needed some inspiration. He had a smoked floor but at least I know how it is supposed to look like. He also had a mint hemi with original motor mounts, mine were zipped off so. . . . I plan on welding new tabs on and making a cool set up like this. 20240828_132444.jpg 20240828_132437.jpg 20240828_132428.jpg 20240828_132418.jpg 20240828_132408.jpg 20240828_130851.jpg 20240828_130845.jpg 20240828_130804.jpg 20240828_130758.jpg 20240828_130755.jpg

^^^^ Is that crossmember / cradle under the HEMI custom made or off the shelf? Looks very nice. Bob

Depending on trans (adapter?) and how bad the mount ears have been hacked, you might be better off doing a front and mid plate. Less chance of messing up the block, stronger mount, and the adapter can be part of the mid. This will depend on your shop and abilities, of course. Welding a 60 year old block can be done, but it's pretty specialized.

That floor looks pretty decent to me! I wish the one I had was that good. I do like your plan going forward.

@The37Kid that crossmember is hand made and just the tip of the iceberg in Ray's shop. Incredible fabrication and insight. Ray has the eye- everything he builds just looks right!!
@RodStRace I get what you are saying but I am still going to try to save this block and make it look stock. The bottom of both sides have been welded already and I'm into it for free already so. . . I bought the high nickel rod and my welder at the shop said he's willing to give it a try. He's confident he can do it. We will see

Those mounts are so nice and simple. The block tabs are similar to my LA small block and I like how they set on the biscuit mount. I see a stamping on them- are they production pieces? And yes, the I beam below it is gorgeous.
