Everybody once in their life needs to build a car
Doesn't matter if its a hot rod or custom or even a bobber
    And I don't mean 1-800- build me a rod
I'm talking about finding a body thats been sitting in a
field for 40 years, patching, welding, pounding that body till its perfect
Scouring the swap meets until you find everything you can dream of
Rebuilding that flathead or that hemi in your own garage
Spending hours in your garage working while your friends think your nuts and play on facebook
And When your done not only will you know your car, you will also know who you are.
And everybody else will know you better then maybe you even know yourself just by looking at what you built.
Who needs a statue or a bridge or some monument named after you
All I ask is that my car be passed along and kept alive generations after I'm gone.
A salute to all whom have had the greatest honor. To All those whom their car and memory lives on. .

I think he may have a point, although it may be on his head. We should all be so honored to leave our mark on society. Unfortunately, in this life few make a difference. We seem to have our worth judged by the number of people who attend our funerals. It would be a far better world if everyone contributed at least one good thing. Or to paraphrase what I once read, "If we could drop our troubles by the wayside, and contribute to the greater good of mankind, we could all soar like Eagles over the mountain. Instead, we try to carry three suitcases, and a watermelon, every where that we go".

  11. Deep... But I see where he's coming from. Maybe the guy is reflecting on loved ones who have passed. As I get older I do more and more of that whilst I'm alone in the workshop.

I'm also aware that my car is already 91 years old and is likely to see me out by many years....

  14. I get what he is saying. Let me sum it up.

Building a car takes focus and dedication. It builds character and leaves you and future generations a lasting reminder of your accomplishment.

    I can't disagree.

And now, Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy...

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell
him is, "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute
thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did."

I don't think so, not unless someone puts the car in a shrine or something similar. Nothing stays the same. Look at all the iconic cars that were changed and then restored (which isn't really original, right?).

Right now there is someone looking at those straight body panels you've restored, just rubbing their hands together and figuring out how to add rust to them for their new rat rod. :D

  24. Point taken. I'm gonna go now. Lonestar needs to poop a watermelon. I don't want to be here for that.

I get the point of doing the work your self ,
But not always practical for all of us .
The car would take 10 years to build .
Ive built my own motors and some I've had built
Depends on what else is going on at the time
Too many projects at once , you need to get a little help
On some things to keep me going . At least I do
A felt full time job / kids / wife / ETC
As far as a monument ????
I don't worry about that , I do it for me ,,now !!
Wow I must have too much time this morning
But then again I am just going POOP !!

I don't the builders of any Iconic car ever gave a thought to it existing 60 years later and constantly being a reference point.

I doubt that Sam Barris gave a second thought to how long his 49 Merc would exist or that 63 years after he built it it would still be around for us to enjoy.

I do see the point of building a car in such a manner that years from now it will look every bit as good as the day you roll it out of the garage finished for the first time. There is a lot to be said for getting it so right that it never needs to be changed to "update" it.
