...or "What kept me from the HAMB drags this year" ...or "What's the HOLDUP on getting the FLEETLINE going?" I finally got all the pieces together, outside right now (well, up to a few minutes ago) doing the wiring. Some will hate the SBC under the hood, but it cost less to build it than to properly rebuild the 316. I put the 316 up on the classifieds, but no takers...if someone doesn't want it then I'll keep it and build it when finances are better. Anyway, the ugly cutouts in the fenderwells will be dressed up soon, and things tidied up quite a bit. I'm just glad to have it running and "almost" on the street again! Yeah, one of those cursed billet distributor things...if they made a cast aluminum version I'd run it just to keep this car billet-free....(sigh), oh well. I'm not the richest person out there, and have to run what I can find that doesn't break the bank.
Looks good, sounds good and moves under its own power. I have a $100 pontiac 350/th350 from a running 74 lemans set to go into my 52 pontiac hardtop. I couldn't afford to rebuild the straight 8 or afford to buy a vintage pontiac V8, like you I'll try and upgrade later. I'll be damned if I'm going to delay getting a project on its legs why I wait to find that exact piece.
You do what you have to do to get it on the road IMO. I bought my Chieftain crashed (a 56 also) and all I could find locally was a 55 front end. I used it. I actually like the 55 nose better so I'll most likely leave it. Luckily my 316 is solid.
Thanks! The daily driver is down too, so I'm kinda having to hurry this one along, but I can't just rush it, LoL...I was content to ride the O/T cafe racer to work and back until I wrecked it. At least it opened up a little more cash to be thrown the Pontiac's direction. Amen Although, I think this is the ONLY car I've had that I haven't met myself (so to speak) in the opposite lane...plenty of people tell me "oh, there's another one of those in such and such..." I go check it out and it's a chevy four door, LoL! Is yours an auto, or a three-speed manual? Yeah, the 55 nose looks a little cleaner, I think. A little girl told me my 56 looked like Britney Spears...and then explained they both resemble catfish with their eyes so far apart bless her little heart! Gotta love the tiny tot redneck kiddos! It wasn't until she said that that I noticed the grille/bumper of the 56 does slightly resemble a rather large metallic catfish. Good thing I dont have curb feelers, it would complete the look...at least I don't see ms spears when I look at it.
okie dokie, was just curious. I haven't seen too many that were manual. If any of y'all use a different radio than stock, and plan on throwin' away the box of tubes with a speaker attached, let me know.
