I'm glad you did. Great looking roadster and what better way to propel it than with a nailhead.

Two years later, the Cockroach is alive and well.....and sold DIRT CHEAP!

Oh, and I got to drive it :D The only changes appear to be cheater slicks, and frog-mouth scoops on the carbs.

    $22.5

    Gas Monkey bought it.....

The guy who was selling it had a bunch of other cars, but all restored stuff. All stock '40 convertible, '30's Auburn, '41 caddy convertible, '30's Caddy sedan. He lost his ass on the Cockroach....don't think he'll be playing with any vintage hot rods any time soon again.

Man, no way to build that kind of car for that kind of money. That sounds like somebody got a super sweet deal.

I dont think that is the way it went down,

Nick who owned the car took it to the auction to sell and as far as I know that was the only car he took there, I talk to him pretty regular and he never said anything about those other cars. As for the Buyer I'm not sure but Nick told me the guy who bought it lives around the St.Louis area and was kind of laughing about how they took it to an auction so far from home and a guy bought it that didnt live to far from them.Im sure Nick will get on here and chime in.

Yeah...all that happened a while ago. It sold at auction again, yesterday, in Dallas, where I drove it across the block and witnessed how it went down.

  13. I'm gonna be sick. This thread started out so neat too.
Well, too much chrome to be practical to drive anyway.

Yeah Mel, Fidgiter drove it on the block at a different auction this weekend. I guess the guy that bought it from us is a buyer/seller and wanted to make some money on it. That was a tough car to get rid of but sometimes you just gotta do it. That car deserves a good home. We took the car as far as we wanted to. We cleaned it up to the best of our ability, and got it back on the road and had some fun while doing so. Its time for the next guy to show it off and most importantly, take care of it. Let's hope that happens.

Kinda confusing on the details, but I sure enjoyed the film with it catching scratch in three gears. Reminds of the good old days when we would be hanging out the windows to hear a little 2nd gear rubber and would go wild when a 3rd gear shift produced a chirp. Ah! the good old days!! I am sure a lot of you can relate.~Sololobo~

Yup. Awesome car!! I was shooting the video of the Fidge driving it across the block. Seemed like a great deal!! I think the reserve was higher, but he pulled the reserve and sold it. I think Eric was ready to trade his modified for it! :D

Gas Monkey came over and said what he would like to do is to yank the side pipes off 'cause he hates them, pull the motor out and stick it in a fat fender, put a flathead in the Cockroach and sell it at another auction and in the end get a cool nailhead out of the deal.

I sure hope the car stays together.

What the fuck? I hope to God your kidding. If you are its not funny at all. Did he seriously say that?

Holy fuck. Im gonna have a panic attack. Does he realize how bad that would mess that car up? Aside from DeSurviving a fucking perfect survivor hot rod hes gonna fuck up the CHROME frame and all sorts of other stuff. Holy shit. Please tell me your kidding. This is bullshit. I don't care if "He bought it fair and square" Nobody should let it happen to that car.

He did say something to that effect..."Yeah man, I'll just put a flathead in it, it's too '70s'. It'll sell better like that." I don't know if he was kidding or not. But I wouldn't worry Nick....he's not going to do anything with the car. It will be on eBay again in a week or so and it will go to someone who really wants it for what it is. I wanted to tell him I'd trade my modified and sedan body for it but couldn't make myself pull the trigger.

    Watch his eBay.

Thanks for the reassurance Eric. I really hope he doesn't mess with that car. It was hard enough to sell it and now I hear this shit? I think this is what hell is like. haha

totally understand your frustration, every car you and I build, buy or sell leaves a soft spot in our heart for one reason or another. We have a lot of stuff in the works and it only gets better

If I bought your '32, painted it flat lavender and put 24" spinners on it, would you be cool with that? I think it would really improve it.

Wow, just when i thought I couldn't stand Richard Rawlings any more he goes and tries to fuck up one of the most perfect cars I have ever seen. I don't think I have ever listed a car for sale where he hasn't emailed me and offered me 1/2 the asking price for it.
I'm sure it will be for sale on ebay though, hopefully he dont fuck with it and someone who appreciates it for what it is winds up with it!

Right now, do whatever you want to it. I would laugh. If it resurfaced in 40 years exactly as My dad and I built it, and THEN you did it? No I wouldn't be cool it it........unless you let me ride "Bitch".

  29. I didn't know you sold it....I came sooo close to owning that car! It is one of my favorites.

I wish that you would have. Then it would have been in good hands for sure.
