Seems Turbo 400’s don’t do that.

 

Maybe he's just showing how clean his hands are after 4000 trouble free miles in an old 'vette.

 

I think the blister is an old one... but lots of hours holding the steering wheel.

It's lunchtime in Socorro. Might get home in time for dinner!

 

I have 350 hands......oh well have to get my blisters doing something else......But yeah that's one helluva drive eh!

Traveling these days isn't cheap either but it's the passion that drives it...Squirrel gets around that's for sure...

 

Sure looks like gravel road to me. I wouldn't look forward to that. Had my share of driving on gravel in a fiberglass car.

No, that's red crushed rock in the asphalt. That makes the road last a lot longer than plain asphalt!

 

It makes lots of tire noise but grips good in the rain.

 

I was just reading where they were going to repair & replace the road and widening it. The article said there were cracks & potholes. I do not know how old the article was.

 

Or the giant cross?

 

We made it home. And got home made tuna hotdish, wonderful.

It'll be fine as long as I don't try any more 5353 mile trips again any time soon! And I love how it looks, so I won't wrap it

Car is back in the garage, ready for some maintenance.

 

You are the MAN. Visit made my day. Wish you had a little more time we would have gone to the big shop on the river and let you guys play with the Willys. You guys made really good time.
And a note to everyone- Squirrel knows how to pack for a road trip. I would have never believed the trunk if I hadn't seen it. And it closed .

Glad we all made it home safe. It was a bit cramped in the vette with the 50 or so of us riding along.

 

Nothing like a 5000 shakedown cruise to sort out a new whip...

 

Good show Jim. An adventure you should be proud of. Times were consistent and impressive.

 

Damnit! Someone should have told @squirrel that you can’t drive old cars long distances in modern traffic, before he did this…

 

It's really not that big a deal to hop in your old car and drive it across the country and go racing. Especially if you're retired, and have the time. You just have to get off your butt, and go!

Oh...I signed up for Death Week while I was on Drag Week. This is an event that is similar, but different...it starts in the Phoenix area, and runs all around California, then back to the start, for a long week, with only 4 days of only 1/8 mile racing. 2000 miles on the drive, and we get to visit some interesting places. Although I've already done several LeMons Rallys in the same area, so it won't be too much new sight seeing for me. This happens next month.

I'm planning on taking the Chevy II on Death Week. So it'll go kind of fast, get lousy mileage, be hard to drive, etc. And go by myself.

 

My Nephew signed up for Death Week. Not so positive if he’ll do as well.
