Yes... I finally decided to get the Model A painted that's why it wasn't at the Road Zombies 10th annual BBQ on June 11th:(
who's doing it? Gambino Kustoms in San Jose owned by Alex Gambino (newest member to the Road Zombies car club) Alex has been building and painting cars for many years and came from the shop (Wild Card) which has a great reputation for their custom work and painting in the Bay Area. Now Alex has branched off and is now doing his own shop and i'm proud to have him give the Coupe... a new look!

Here are the preliminary pics i took of the first day of sanding:) In this first photo you see Bill Gonzalez (club president of the RZ) helping out with the along with another long time club member, Jason Periotti ( who is also very experienced in auto body & painting and works for a place in San Mateo, CA) ...as they took the initial paint ( green spray/rattle can) they found out that my Model A underneath the green had really been two different cars welded together at the cowl and doors ( notice the blue paint in the front and the red in the back half)

another angle... First it was going to be a basic paint job over the existing paint, just taking it down and block it, but when Alex found out that it was actual spray paint used, he didn't want to put nice/expensive paint over that cheap stuff, so they decided to take it down to the bare metal (which took longer than expected) and they also found out that the car was put together with tons of silicon in different areas of the car to make it a tight seal and that it had a few hidden cracks here and there underneath the bondo on the front cowl, but the body was pretty clean and straight every where else.

back view- say goodbye to the green paint and bronze scallops! I also bought a new trunk lid (...yike$) from Vintage Ford in Sacto because mine was pretty dented up and warped which would had added more time to the project trying to make it perfect and straight, the car had been damage previously in the rear underneath the back licence plate so i replaced those parts (rear outer panel) as well with new ones.

It's getting late and Larry Smith ( another Road Zombie and great friend) seen here pressure washing my small block to be prepped for paint in front of Gambino Kustoms.

we'll that's it for now... will post more updated pics later.. thanks for looking!
best wishes and can't wait till it's finished and i'll have a look of my own, we are trying to have it done for the 2nd annual Asphalt Invitational coming up July 9th, we are hoping everything goes smooth (yea-right) in the process to get it there for the car show. But by taking the car all the way down to bare metal, Alex has found many things that were hidden underneath that Green paint job that needed fixen and he believes... if we are going to do this car, let's do it right, no half-ass job leaving his place... i agreed, let's fix what can be fixed and welded...properly!
oops... forgot to mention that these shots were taking on the 10th, so lots has been done since then.
    best wishes,
    CAB

you know it! but that happened before i actually took it to Gambino's place because i really wanted to be sure what the color choice was before it left my garage and to his, we finally found a cool color at Paso that i chose. i would go to all these shows looking to see what i liked and it changed many times from time to time, i have been wanting to paint this car for many months now, since last August!

Coupe always looked great before, can't wait to see the facelift. I'm always bad at chosing final colors too. I change my mind 1000 times. The painter finally asks me if thats my final answer. Good luck!

hey cab...wanted to say thanks for referring me to alex. I stopped by the shop. Very very cool guy. he was working on a couple of trucks..I can see parts to one of them in the background...lots of work. he does nice work in there.

I would have gone through him but I just could afford it at the time.

My paint will be happening in a couple of phases so who knows.

Just wanted to say thanks and tell him I said whats up. he should remember me. I stopped by with the caddy.

Good luck with the paint. I'm sure it will look hot.

    Coupe-De-CAB,

I really like your car. When I went through a hot rod book that my wife picked up for me a while back (I can't remember the name right now), I read the whole book and marked your car as my favorite. I think you have the stance/chop right on the money. Thanks for posting the pictues, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Let me know if you ever want to sell it. :)

    cool
and especially since i really liked the old colour and kinda wanted to rip it off but didnt wanna seem like a copycat, but now i can without shame :)

  28. It is wierd for me to see a car that I have known for almost 10 years change color, but I cannot wait to see the change! Im glad the car is still around and on the road.

Oh, yea, when I first heard about the car being 2 different cars years ago, I didnt believe it. Guess it was true all along! Post pix when you can
