Hot Rods ---The Dash, 1925 Chev Roadster Update.---

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy B, Dec 11, 2009.

  1. I got my gauges laid out where I want them. The VDO tach will be replaced when I find a SW tach I can afford. I have an AC oil temp gauge for the empty hole. I also need to find a SW Auburn style temp gauge.

    Nice!your alloy fairings look great!!
Those damn whippet grilles are always rusted at the bottom anyway,

    cut it shorter-problem solved!

  4. Cheers Lowsquire!!
The two I have are both rooted at the bottom. I have one in the mol***es at the moment once it is out I need to send it down to Drewfus.
I am using the original radiator so that restricts me to how much I can lower it.

Looking good Jimmy! Primitive and raw just like back in the good ol' days!

  6. Cheers!! The Crescent pointer SW gauges are a pain to locate, but when they fill out the dash like that there is nothing better.

    Cheers mate!!!

  7. Oh, forgot I have been working on a track nose but have put it on hold. decided I do like the whippet shell more :D

Jamie - I have a FC Holden radiator which I'll never use - its supposed to fit the Whippet grill shell.

do you want me to measuure it?

So damn cool!! Love that bad boy!! Thanx for sharing it with us!! ~Sololobo~

  10. have you thought about having the hood seam follow the door line down, like it does in some of the original pics?

  11. Yeah if you could, thanks!! Murphy's Law, it will fit, how do I know? When I traded my EK I included the spare radiator I had and they are the same as FC.:(:(

    Thanks ~Sololobo~

I can't go down much more as there won't be enough clearance between the engine & bonnet. On the original it has a slight uphill bonnet.

  12. dont lower the hood, the change the hood seam...so the seam follows the body line. Just like in the historical pics you posted.

  13. I really like that car and for some reason the uphill hood never bothered me. It kind of adds to it's charm.

    The dash looks great too.

  14. True it adds charm, but it was starting to bug me to the point I didn't work on the roadster for a month. I'm real happy with how the dash turned out.

I don't have the tools to change it and can't afford another sheet of Aluminium to make another.

Dash layout looks ripper Jimmy, good luck gettin' an SW tach. Give us a front 3/4 shot when the bonnet/hood is done.

Looking good Jimmy, keep it up.

  20. Thanks Nic.
    Thanks Jay.

Nowhere near wine country. I'm 1 hr southwest of the Gold Coast. This roadster may find its way stateside one day.

    That was the goal :D
    Cheers Kevin!

  21. I like the lower look, good progress.

Radiator - also try Suzuki Sierra, might suit your situation depending on position of chev outlets.

    gauges...let me see....

Are you going to tinker a bit with that drum at the front....(over spring & axle?)

good progress, how much alloy do you need for that top, will PM over the next couple of days.

Cheers, great to see your progress,

    Drewfus:)

The artist in you, wouldn't let you accept that uphill bonnet, would it? You are doing a great job, of capturing the "early era of hot rodding", keep up the excellent work.

  23. Cheers!!

Thanks for the suggestion will keep it in mind

    :D:cool::D

Yep, going to lower it and make the blister bigger.

I only need a bit for the bellypan, if I can sell the '29 I will buy a couple more sheets and use the left overs on the streamliner/lakester.

Pretty much, the bonnet angle stuck out like dog balls, I'm glad I fixed it. Thanks for the encouragement.
    Cheers
