It is such a shame to hear this. I am sorry to say I never investigated since I thought it was such a high quality magazine. I will certainly not be renewing my subscription. I hope they can mend the error of their ways...

I'm responding to this quote on my Chinese iPad....wearing my Sperry Topsiders also made in China. Get over it, we're in a global economy. It took me a long time to come around to this conclusion. I'm certainly not defending off shore manufacturing or call centers in Costai Rica, but I understand that they serve a purpose. I know of at least six high performance equipment manufacturers that were having their packaging as well as their catalogs printed in Hong Kong in the late eighties. Belond Mufflers were building headers in Baja California in the sixties.

Last time I checked, TRJ had a $12.95 cover price. How many of you would fork over $19.95 a copy if it was printed in the this country? I seriously doubt if there would be enough of you to sustain the business mondel.

That may be true, but Pete was an enthusiast AND he made money.

Frankly, we don't need "shareholders" out side the folks that subscribe to the magazine. If you see NO value or interest in the item you hold "shares" in, you will of course move the money around, blind to who it crushes as cast-off employees, or enthusiasts of the mark.

Maybe a million dollars of investment in Magazines will only get you 3% profit per year. Maybe that same million will make 17% per year in the salt mines of Turkey. It doesn't mean Magazines aren't profitable, it just means you can make obtuse $$$ running unsafe business elsewhere. This issue is much broader than magazines.

Bottom Line: We need an enthusiast white knight to buy the mag. You can make money at it and there is still value.

Change is inevitable we all know that. However all change is not good. There are people out there who promote change just for the sake of change. It usually is to benefit them in someway. There is something very comforting about setting down and relaxing with a magazine that you don't get with a computer. What's next no more car shows or car gatherings just shown your car on line. A virtual car show is not a change that would be good. I think that loosing R&C is not a good change.

My computer may be Chinese, but my shoes certainly aren't. Nor are most things that I have a CHOICE in consuming or not. You may buy into the guise of "purpose" in offshore manufacturing, but it simply boils down to greed and apathy of both the provider and the consumer. Would I fork over an extra 7 bucks for a magazine the quality of TRJ if it was printed in the USA? Gladly. Much the same as I gladly fork over more money for any quality American made product, such as the Roundhouse overalls and Carolina boots that I wore to work today. Plenty of companies sustain their business models while supporting American workers. They deserve our support. FUCK a "global economy". I don't have to get over it. I have to fight it - just like every other person who still believes in the ideals of the American worker. So stick that in your Sperry Topsiders and smoke it...

Rant over. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.
