That's an after market fiberglass top for the convertibles. My buddy had one years ago on his '61 Impala convertible.

I suspect that Impala is actually wearing the top off a 58 "squarebird." That top happens be sharp in my mind, as I've been watching Bad Chad chopping up a squarebird on youtube this week. He wanted to alter the top and make it look more like the short tops on the 55/56/57 two-seater T-birds. He cut the back of the top loose and slid it forward a bit more than 12 inches to create a new look. See if you agree with me, that it looks much better with a shorter top:

  8. That’s really nice, Johnny. Reminds me of the Fireman Gordy ‘55.

Thanks, much appreciated. Yes, I've spoke with him on here a few times. One of my favorites for sure.

Followed along on your build ... I love the mild changes, the Lancer trim, the front fender lip, the tall skirts, the Chevy headlight bezels and added body line. I especially like the fabricated grill bar!!!

Seeing it in the car makes me wonder about the primered lower section of your grill opening. I've never had a shoebox, but assume the that is part of the Ford pan? I can't help but wonder what it will look like when you paint it body color?

Just my opinion, but I think the floating grill bar with have a nicer "floating" effect it the entire background inside the grill cavity just fades to black.

Thank you! Still working on figuring out how to finish off the inside of the grille. Been debating lately about using some expanded metal behind the grille bar and painting that gold and the rest red to match.

  16. Look at a 58 Ford passenger car grill insert. Often use for just that. Photo is upside down.
