Well, after seeing that T Bird, I had to come back to "mild custom" again. Here is my 56 Chevy. It might not even be considered a mild custom but that was my intention in building it, not too much change, just clean up the details.

  6. Thanks Sancho, the only other picture that I've seen of that car is the one Tattooed on the kids arm!! A good likeness, but not as nice as the real thing, LOL.

Nice job touching up the "patina" around the taillights...

Skinny white walls and lower it and it’d be perfect to me [emoji1303]

I used to have wide whites and chrome wheels on it but it looked odd. So someone offered me those chrome wires with good tires for 300 bucks and I couldn't turn it down since the tires alone were worth that.
It has lowered front springs on it but it didn't lower it the 2" it was supposed to. I bought new rear springs but it set up too high so I put the original springs back under it. I agree, it needs to come down some more, but I have lost interest in it and will leave it as it is.

Damn I wish I could find a deal like that on those wire wheels but some lowering blocks and either cut the springs or dropped spindles and you’ll fall right back in love. Lol

Here's one I took of it at the Starliner in 2014.

This one looks just like the cover art of an AMT Model kit, c. 1960!
    I love the mirrors (stock).

My under construction 51 Ford. All of the customization so far has been done by Jeff Myers of Premier Body & Paint in Arkansas City, KS. The car is currently down with a leaky master cylinder, I’m hoping to take it to the Lead Ain’t Dead show in Dewey, OK in September.

52 Chevy headlight rings and frenched headlights, mid 50’s Holden FJ grille from Australia and a custom surround built by Jeff. Still a long way to go but it’s a nice start.

Mick Tully's "Golden Galleon" Chevy is one of my all-time favorites.
It still exists, but in much modified form.

Personally, I think it is just perfect as seen here.
Check the custom grille-work around the headlights (fortunately, still on the car.)

    Hello,

In high school, there were a group of us that each owned cars: 53 mild custom Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop, a 56 custom silver Chevy with white, tuck and roll, chromies, duals and a floor shift. A fast 57 Chevy Bel Air, lowered rake, 2x4 quads, headers, and a custom 4 speed with traction bars. A 55 2 door post Chevy lowered rake, custom accessories and a floor shifter. Finally, my 58 Impala with all of its go fast goodies, different rims/wheels, C&O Stick Hydro, Racer Brown cam, solids, chrome stuff, etc. An all Chevy group that just happened, because our car repairs and mods could be interchanged easily.

One of our friends always rode around in each of those Chevy sedans. He did not have a car, but was working on getting one that was different. One day, he drove up in a 53 white Pontiac. It was his pride and joy. It was an automatic, 6 cylinder, cool looking Pontiac Sedan. It was similar to a 52 Chevy sedan that we would see cruising around our high school area.

He knew it was as stock as it could be, but like all other high school kids, it was his first real car that he bought on his own. If he put in a big v8 and stick shift, that would cost a ton of more money, despite all of us doing the work for free…(well, the cost would be a lunch at Russell’s Restaurant in Bixby Knolls.)

While other cars were fast hot rods, his was a cruiser, to do nothing else but to get to school and job, on time, daily. So, small mods were the order of the day. We were all in the metal shop and auto shop for two years. I was asked to make a floor shifter for this Pontiac. A floor shifter? In a stock, Pontiac Sedan?

Well, we needed a project for the auto shop and this looked like fun. My friend told us that he saw a roadster cruising around with a tall floor shifter handle sticking up as high as the dashboard. He wanted one of those for his “stock, but custom, Pontiac.” It was to be something different than "speed stuff" for his car.

So, yes, it ended up being a mild custom, with only a few custom touches. But, no one in Long Beach had a 53 Pontiac 2 door sedan with a floor shifter lever (and custom round ball) sticking up above the dash. (with just the right amount of curvature to not hit the dash when shifting.) High School Auto Shop creativity and hot rod/custom car individuality at its finest, for us hot rod minded teenagers.
