My thoughts are you should tow that pig to my house and get my A bone. Those look like a good choice on tires to me. How close are you getting on that old heap? Do you need anything from my junk parts collection?
Hey beeno! Im full speed ahead on it while i have a couple of weeks off. ,im rebuilding the brake system as of now My steering and column shifter is done. The engine is getting ****oned up soon, I ordered a radiator Im ordering a wiring harness and the lock up and tv cablw for the ******. I located some ford centercaps for the 17.5 wheels.. I now have 8 17.5 wheels. Just deciding on tires.. I guess its getting pretty serious.. Would u happen to have the rear brake line to a c20? I lost mine... I cannot believe i lost like 4 foot of brake line in such small place.
I got lots of old pieces of brake line, I keep them every time I re-do someone's lines. But nothing C20 specific. Most of it I wouldn't use again. LOL I really want hear and see that old hoopty on running.
hey Seth, how rare or expensive are brake lines in the desert? due to the salt they spread on the roads around here, we change lines often. they are cheap and plentiful and we wouldn't even think of using an old line. i like the tire choice but would like to see one in the wheel well.
My 1960 Falcon still has the hard brake lines that it left the factory with. They are fine. Everywhere that I cut and re-flared them for the dual master cylinder, they looked brand new, inside, and out. Even where it snows, most municipalities here don't use road salt here (dirty secret: it does not really work all that well, if at-all, under many conditions. You're getting scammed).
Brake lines are plentiful and cheap...its the parts store that are scarce...so i see a 180 mile trip just to get a couple of feet of line.. Illput up a video of it running...just for u beeno
The New England folk don't have a good idea how big California is, where Death Valley is, or how much exactly is just not there.
So thankfully someone serviced the brakes before i got it...i just cleaned the wheel cylinders in and out and just cleaned the brakes as much as i could.
So im thinking of hiding my E fuel pump in this: Like this And my fuse panel in this Well..parts run tomorrow and a trip to the junk yard for a throthle cable and some random sbc bolts.
makes sense now, i was just confused by looking for used lines from a guy across the country. i wish you luck in the move to vegas. lots of action and part stores.
salt doesn't melt snow/ice? it's effectiveness diminishes as the temps drop but it is effective to clear the roads around here..............and will even rot out your tin hat.
Nae it was my failed attempt at being humorous! Im making a special trip to The parts store today..its only 200 miles and it takes me 2 days... Mules are getting slower every year
It does more harm to public and private property than good. If you haven't seen a snow bank on the side of the highway that is 4' taller than the top of the trailer on a semi, then you don't know from snow. Plows, blowers, and brushes clear roads. If they dumped salt on the roads in the Sierra's like a they do in Lichfield County, they would have to repave all of the roads annually, and replace bridges annually, and all of our drinking water would be contaminated.
no argument from me about the damage it does. your statement about us being scammed here about it's ability to clear our roads is just wrong. no amount of salt would clear the 14+ feet i have seen in the mountains of california. even here the plows clear the roads and then the salt is applied, and when the air temps are too low for the salt to be effective, the sun is able to warm the pavement, to allow it to work.
The scam is that the damage outweighs the benefits, but the salt lobby owns you, but that is politics, and not welcome here. I do know. I was born in Middletown, grew up in Higganum and Haddam, later living in Portland and South Glastonbury. I commuted from the latter two, through Hartford, to New Britain, every weekday, for a very long time.
So bummed that it didn't snow out here and I had to get some work done... And a little work got done. Last night,my FIL got a very dreadful call, his brother, had to be given CPR. My FIL took off to see him but he didn't make it. Before being my uncle,he was my friend,he gave me the ch***is this project is sitting on and lots of tools, wheels,he was my old car dealer, and parts dealer. He was the funniest guy ever and he was always in a good mood. I will miss him dearly. Awkward day in the morning but I had to get stuff done so I started installing the rest of my brake lines and new hoses. Finished the rear brakes and moved to the front plugging the intake manifold holes. Installed my p***enger side exhaust manifold(its the only way to drop the engine) Installed PS pump and hoses Installed V belts and radiator hoses. Then I man'd up and started messing with my 16" ford innie wheels,Cleaned them up with a wire wheel, painted them and let em dry. I picked up 4 almost new 265/70/16 tires from a hot lady on CL for 200 so that's that, left me 600 for other stuff since that was my tire budget. After my wheels were painted I installed 1 with the manual tire changer...man what a pain in the reat but it's just as hard to take Old hardened tires off. But heres the wheel and tire installed Its only 2" short in diameter than my 17.5s Here is with the ford center cap on I got 4 more caps coming from Canada. I am not upset that the tire does not fill the wheel opening because I ordered 3" dropped spindels so that'll tuck them in real nice. I was so happy about the look that i forgot the backache and my smashed finger on my recently repaired finger Now i can really do some major G Spot damage! Any way...I was happy trying to take a picture of the wheel and i tried to rotate it so the "FORD" on the centercaps would be level,NO GO! Wth? Brake hoses are off! Is the tire sitting on the jack? Nope! The wheel is tight on the brake caliper...MURPHY you motherclucker!! Now i have to use 1/4" spacers or my 16"steelies and no centercaps...ooooff! I also got my Radiator and mocked it up...the fan is sitting too low and the rad is too tall for my liking... So now i gotta decide if i want to leave it like this or modify the front Crossmember and the Rad craddle.. I was beat so i blew the candles off(im sp traditional I work under candle light) and headed inside to take a shower and have some Argentinian chorizo and some hot peppers.. Its gettibg hard out here for a pimp!
Seth, sorry for your loss. It really ****s to lose a good friend, I've been there. Wheels/tires....how badly are the wheels hitting? can you "clearance" the calipers a little bit? And WTH did you mount that tire with the letters out????? Radiator...I had to build a lowered front x member and rework the cradle to get my rad low enough.
Yes,I still can't grasp the idea of not seeing him around,he was only 45. I'm going to put a couple of 1/8" washers to see if they clear then i'll decide if grind the caliper or get a spacer. I did mount the white letters on the outside..i was going to grind the tire and uncover whitewalls...if that dont pan out, then leave them black. On the Rad,I literally went to fte and searched for that other thread where you posted that picture, and i saved it. I think im going to narrow my craddle so it can drop down..well see Thank you!
iwannaflattie, Sorry to hear of your loss. You'll always remember him by all the gifts he's given you, real and intangible. This is a great idea.... I like how Wards uses the phrase "GOOD QUALITY" ; this before the days of hyperbole and overstatement. Even those battery-powered "fencers" could knock you on your ****.
Hello governor Thanks guys.. Im still working on this.. 99% of the brakes are rebuilt, then ill be ready to bleed them. New shocks/shock mounts, Almost finished trans mount, Almost finished ****oned the engine. I received my wiring harness yesterday, Waiting on tv and lockdown kits from bowtie overdrives Waiting on my dropped spindels My wheels and tires are mounted... Im waiting for some centercaps fron Canada And as for now im trying to figure my rad craddle..thanks to Scotts Idea i started to mess with it. I made a mock up cradle from some tubing i had because i dont want to cut my original craddle. Do yall think 1x2" 16ga tubing is strong enough for it? I also gotta drill a 2 1/2 hole and 3= 1 1/2" holes for hoses and ****** lines and one for the drain.. Oolooor i could remove that Cmemeber and use a 1.5" 11gauge square tube as a Cmember to reinforce and to hold my proportioning valve and my brake lines. Thoughts? You can see the fan is about 5"away from the radiator so gotta figure that one too... Can't wait fer ideers. Thanks
Seth , I used1x2 .090 on mine seamed strong as hell . The fan could use a spacer or build a fan shroud which I think would work better in lost wages . Your burning it up bud . It's nice to have a deadline sometimes. Blue
Seth, I removed that stock X member completely and built a new one lower that the rad cradle sits on. Then welded a bracket to the back side for the brake valve. Your cradle looks fine, but how will the fenders attach to it? The stock one kinda holds everything together
Hey scott can u get to your coe? Is it out side? If ts out there i will not ask u to go out there and take a photo of your braiits. Im wondering if a square tube of 1.5"x1.5" 3/8" thick will do the trick as a crossmember?? And im adding spacers to reach the fenders..thanks
I think I used 2"x3" angle for my X member. My truck is warm and dry in the shop....can't stand to see it sit out in the snow. Here's a pic from the build
