I was thinking about these frontwheel fairings/fenders... Did they move with the frontwheels when they steered, or were these fairings fixed in one position. It's not allowed to drive fenderless here in Europe and it would defenitely be cool (and a helluva job too) to create something like this on an early car here, so you won't get h***led by the law so much... Does anyone have detailed pics of the whole frontwheels/steering/fairings..?
My guess would be fixed. The Tucker was originally designed with streerable fairings but they were dropped because of stability issues at speed.
That car is the Chrisman Coupe with the nose made out of two 40 Ford hoods. It has since been restored back into the Chrisman Coupe. I was lucky enough to see it before during and after that "TV car" episode. (I liked both versions too, those fairings are cool and might even p*** as legal in California.) As far as the weelbase being stock, nuthin's stock on that car, the engine is right in front of the rear axle mid-engine stye and the driver is sitting a tad close to the windshield. I have a '39 hood and some Model A pieces here, I'd like to maybe build into a roadster, or tub version similar to that some day. Without the gull wing Swiss doors of course....

To me building that car out of the Chrisman Coupe is one of the biggest crimes ever commited by a customiser. Not because that car is so bad ( those fairings could be neat on the right car...) But the Chrisman Coupe in its original form was sheer perfection, and can not be improved upon, in my opinion. He should not have carved that car up...
