Another great photo from the Wally Welch scrapbook.

This time Wally's 1941 Ford with the Louis Chavez created Padded top.

I love the simplicity of the 1940's Customs...

    Some 1940's Ford mild customs...
Most of the cars where customized like this, some great looking aftermarket goodies. And possibly some slight stance adjustments.

    From ebay...

I agree Rob, the old primitive and simple environment blended with palms, picket fences, cool people and even cooler customs are my favorites! Ofcourse, photos from nice neighborhoods with art deco buildings looks great as well, but there is something about seeing an old custom in a poor worker suburbia area, it looks so real and unstaged!

Here is a photo of a chopped 1936 Ford cabriolet with padded top I recently bought from a collection in Sacramento. A true modest 1940s custom!

PERFECTION.... It just blows me away what people do with 41 fords in this day and age compared to this.Just in case it hasnt been said .........Wally Welch was one of the Heaviest of all the Heavy Hitters to ever get behind the steering wheel of a custom. This guy is a fucking LEGEND........... well except for the fact that he changed the first color of his 50merc because his girlfriend didnt like it.It's hard for me to believe that since the guy had the balls to build and crush the streets of Los Angeles driving this diamond right here. That girl really must of had Wally by the short & curlys for him to change his Ayala lime gold paint job, especially being fresh out of the show at the Pan Pacific. So except for that move... Wally Welch is a legend in my mind.

    Great photos Ron.
Your fathers Convertible looks really great.
It looks to have only one Spotlight, and its even pointed out forward like a lot of them do in the early days.

Was that a Hall top on your fathers car?
