Thanks guys. I've gotten many compliments on the chop. When I visited Dick Dean and he saw the car, he said "That's a great chop just like I'd do it". I took a picture of him standing next to it and I heard after Dick passed that his son had it hanging his shop and claiming Dick built it
Our Thanks to Moriarity for this "Post" These pic' are from the early days of "Snooky's 41" taken at the "Barris" Shop. Here it is Today. !! I'm happy to say that it is in fact a "Survivor" after all these year's. It was built right after "Jesse Lopez's 41 by Geo. & Sam Barris. A lot of thought and effort were put into the rebuild and restoration to bring it back just like it was in 1951.! Since this form is what makes a 41 Coupe look good or not or why even try, I think it's interesting that both "Valley Custom" and "Barris Kustoms" chose the "41 Coupe" to show that it could be done, and IMO, they both succeeded.! It should be noted that "Ed Jacques" 41 Coupe and "Jesse Lopez" 41 Coupe are both "Club Coupe's" and "Snooky's 41 Coupe is a "Business Coupe" There is a difference and it's in the Door's. The Club Coupe Doors are 7" longer or the same as the 2 Dr Sedan. (This is where the term "Short Dr vs. Long Dr" comes from, that we use today.) Interesting about all of this is the fact that the 1/4 glass in both Coupes is the same and will in fact inter change. The window in the business Coupe is stationary and the Club Coupe will swing open. I mention this because I think it presents an altogether different approach on how you approach the "Chop" I like both, it just depends on what you start with and what you want for the finished product.! Both "Ed Jacques" and Snooky's Coupe underwent extensive "Body Work" on the fenders and related areas to archive the "Smooth look" a major job on the "41" and done by different Shops at about the same time.! This amount of work required is significant because as "George Barris" pointed out to us, that all of this work was done before "Bondo". Metal work and a lot of lead. "Paul Bragg's " 41 Coupe was done by Him by replacing the Metal in all of the seams and metal working the fenders. A real piece of work.! Another question that often comes up about "Snooky's" 41 is who would put a "46 Chev" Grille in a 41 Ford, "Barris" often used a 48 "Cadillac" as he did in "Jesse's" or "Old's' Not sure who gets credit for that decision but here it is. They all make "Wonderful Kustoms" !! "Snooky's 41" is in good hands and being well cared for in Shawnee, Ks View attachment 6293484 View attachment 6293485 View attachment 6293486 View attachment 6293484 View attachment 6293485 View attachment 6293486 . by my Brother & his Wife Sharon.
I have always liked the '41 Ford front end and I am really surprised to hear people calling the Jesse Lopez '41 Ford anything but bad ass. There's a lot more going on with the Ed Jacques '41 than what was mentioned. For example- it has '48 bumpers and tail lights, peaked hood, rolled rockers replacing the running boards, front wheel openings raised (which lends a lot to the overall look), molded front and rear valances (which helped that big '41 front gap behind the bumper), and the front fender creases have been deleted...there's a lot going on. Impossible to compare the Lopez and Snooky chops- two different body styles. Lopez is the long door club coupe and Snooky's is a short door (sedan front doors) business coupe. Both chops are fantastic for their body style.
The '48 two door I owned when I was18 was the only fat fendered specimen I have ever had until I bought a long door coupe last summer. I've never been drawn to any particular model of Ford's fattys, but looking at the Jacque's grille and comparing it to a stock '41, I much prefer what was done to the custom. To me, it just looks right.
I will say again, "I like the 41's". I actually preferred them over the 46-48, but I like those too, and wouldn't kick any out of the garage. I think I like the 41 because it is unique. I'm probably past the point of getting one, and should have bought one 30 years ago when I was hot for one. But you never know.....
I personally really like 41 Fords. I think my favorite of all time is the first version of Deron Wright's. I was kinda bummed when he updated it with the Olds grill.
