Not uncommon but it’s funny when wanted to go faster you removed the flathead and put in a GMC 6 in 1952. 12 port crossflow heads were available too. Very soon it was Chrysler, Olds, and Cads…..Chevrolet V8’s were light years away thinking in 1952.
To a degree... but the next year, the b-coupe record was held by a flathead... and every year there after until 1960. The last flathead to hold the b-coupe record? A car we discussed last week:
Great photos, especially the one of the seat. It looks like an electric chair in an abandoned prison.
Hello, The history of Ed Pink is well documented. Ed Pink Engines and history in drag racing came in the early So Cal hot rod scene. The builds are associated with a lot of the top racing teams and individuals across the country. The results are/were impressive. The 36 Fords have their own look and style. It was getting away from the boxy Model T-A styling. The new look in 33-34 started the more streamlined look, rather than a moving box with doors. But, this new era was a part of the 30s Art Deco influence. A defined smoothness to an already boxy design leaning toward a swept back look. Most swoopy 30’s styles were priced out of range for the everyday families and individuals. But for the normal working folk, the factories designed their own version of a swoopy looking coupes and other models. A new look from the USA factories started the style that is still popular, today. No more “squarish” grilles and hoods. Ed Pink 1936 Ford Custom Car Chronicles For a Friday Art design, I tried to emulate how I saw the 36 Ford Coupe. It was a stylish 36 Ford Coupe with a nice Tahitian Red Color to show the cool lines of the build from Ed Pink. The painted shape on the rear quarter panel was/is a tribute to his dad’s Paint shop from the early days. old history The total rebuild and present day version: Jnaki Approaching 80, I can see how time and activities make moving on a little more difficult for all concerned. The activities of the teenage-20 something years begin to start showing up at the most inopportune time. Walking down the stairs normally, then a knee gives out, causing a rapid hanging on to the rail, etc. This action shows up when not expecting them. So, when someone gets into the 90’s, that is really something. When we were teenagers, being that old never crossed our minds. Now being close to 80, seeing our 60 year high school reunion come and go was just a part of life, today. But as teenagers, it was an occasional sighting of a grandpa or grandma at someone’s birthday or a family holiday event. Why would we get so old? We were lively teens with a ton of stuff to get done and have fun doing them. But, look at us now… ha! We all are brainwashed into the sightings of Ed Pink Engines and history in drag racing. This 36 Ford was a portion of his hot rod life that most have not associated with the name and involvement. YRMV
