Your talking about the front steady rest ? Lot's of people leave then off. I kept mine as I wanted all the stability I could get. If you decide to go with it, I have one for sale
I opted to remove mine when I swapped from a 6 cylinder to a y block. That's been several years and alot of miles ago and I haven't noticed any issues.
The reason(s) for the STEADY REST is for the engine to tie the engine/frame together as the 1954-56 frame/body mount was not all that rigid. It also helped with drive-line vibrations and ride quality. Just a mention, no resultant food fight necessary.
