    Hmmm...
Got the front and rear glass out of my '53 Ford, scraped MOST of the gunk out of the window openings.
Chiseled 18 linear feet of CAULK out of my drip rails. Uncovered a fair amount of cancer under that. Woohoo.
Found out that either my car used to be the same shade of "pink" as Bondo, or the car is an even bigger POS than I thought. I suspect the latter. :(

On the upside, new rockers are welded in, and the driver's floor is no longer a Corona case (not even joking...) Now I'll be digging my heels into what USED to be a Caprice trunklid.

My car's at that very disheartening "demo" stage right now, where the more I accomplish, the worse it looks. It'll be nice when I can get it in all one color, at least, even if it's primer grey...

But you know, it's still nice that a lot got done!

  2. pulled the motor from the long roof...tore it down for a rebuild...got the longroof's whole front clip on the ground...vacuumed out about 2 lbs of leafy mud from the cowl

Played around on Saturday afternoon dismantling an old bullseye bowser to repair the frame and had a quick look at how to fit the brake pedal in my 37 todor. Sunday morning was time to do some "domestics", and after lunch went to a mates place to look at the progress on his 28 RPU, and to retrieve some of my parts I had lent him for mock up purposes. Came home and looked at my Mustang rear that I had purchased a couple of weeks ago on "good" condition only to find when I dismantles it that the long axle has been lying in water, and there is no spline for the first inch. Not a happy boy!!

Well Saturday My wife and son and I went to a cool car show at a local restaurant...it went pretty cool except for some Graybeards poking fun 'cuz my wife drove our Edsel to the show.....but thats cool we still had a good time. My son saw a real flat head engine for the first time and he really liked them.

Sunday...My son and I sanded down the air cleaner to the Y-block and we painted it the correct metallic gold color. Then we traded a 10 bolt rear-end and a siezed up SBC 350 for a BBC 427.

we are both pretty excited to have a 427. It will probably just sit on our back porch until we have the funds to build it.

over all it was a great week end.............TD

Went through all my treasures to pull out stuff to sale at the American River Swap meet. Filled the bed of my truck and 8 foot trailer. Was thinking, nobody is gonna want to buy this crap while I was loading it up. I was almost embarassed to take it out there. Ended up selling about 80% of it and pocketing $850. This was after buying a set of 15 inch Truespokes with knockoffs for $60, a 3 gallon Moon tank for $50, and a new M/C w/vacuum assist, brake pedal, and floor mount bracket for a 39 Ford for $100. Got home and fired up the 46 to go to the open house at Blue Collar Customs. You know your ride is too low when you drag the carpet out that is on the garage floor when you back up. Had to jack the thing up to get the carpet out from under it. Headed out again and the brakes were too spongy so headed back and messed with them the rest of the day.

Dug the bondo out of my new project '30 Model A Tudor turned roadster. Made mental plans on what needs to be replaced/repaired on this thing.

let's see... still working on boxing the back shelf speaker system on the caddy.

For those who don't know. The back shelf in a 60 cad is welded in. I don't have the tools to un-weld, so I used a cut off tool to remove the majority of the shelf, leaving the trunk mounts, and supports for the back seat.

Then I cut a sheet of 3/4 inch pressboard wood, for 10 inch round speakers, and six lil 2 inch tweeters. (I cheated and used old household box speakers, hey they were handy).

Then I cut the pressboard to fit, drilled holes in the remaining sheet metal, and the pressboard, and attached the wood where the sheetmetal used to be.

Now.. problem is, the 10's have no box. So... I'm working on turning part of the trunk into a box. The supports for the back seat have allowed me to use more pressboard and liquid nails to pretty much seal off the front of the box, that and a TON of silicone caulk should do the trick. Then for the shelf, more silicone caulk, more liquid nails, and more pressboard. That's basically what I finished this weekend :)

Next step is the rest of the box, I plan on using another sheet of pressboard, I'm going to cut it so it fits against the front wall in the trunk, and cut around the trunk door mounts. After I finish getting that to fit well, I will fill the box area with wall insulation (the pink roll stuff) since I've got cheap access to that, and I'll pack it in nice and tight, then seal off the box with more liquid nails. Then carpet the trunk (thank GOD no rust issues), and carpet the rear shelf, wire up the speakers to my currenty non existing head unit in my glovebox. (still gotta buy one), and re-install my back seats. Then I'll be able to drive the sucker again, and not have to hear all the noise from driving a car with no back seat and bad trunk seal :) Oh, that reminds me... order a new trunk seal.

  13. I managed to make it all the way to Fort Lauderdale, Fl in a rusty, 21 year old Merc 300D, with NO problems.
Traffic on 295 was insane, cruise set on 95, and one hour at 100-105. Apparently all the old farts were at Denny,s...:D

I have some time on Tuesday, would like to meet any HAMBer's in the immediate area, I'm at the Day's Inn on Broward, a block from 295.

I finally got the body painted. Not too bad for my first paint job. The shop lighting and the camera flash don't do the color any favors.

00 Mack came over yesterday afternoon, and in between about 7 hours of bs'ing, he managed to stripe a HUGE piece on the decklid of the sled. The guy is amazing. I wish I had some pictures available to share with everyone here on the HAMB. I'll get some posted this week of the work he did. Crazy lines. His work just blows me away.

I finally finished installing the glass in my Merc. Now I have to endure the glass adjustment process so that they all operate properly. This is a milestone for me. The car is done enough to drive. I sit on plywood and cardboard - bit I can drive it!

I and my neighbor got a gas post hole digger and replace a section of his fence and a section of mine. Lucky for me mine is about done.

    Note:
those one man gas powered post hole diggers are really 2 man. Unless, of course you look like the HULK.:D

I did think about the car.

My boy was baptized Saturday, and I chased him around the house all day Sunday. There's nothing more important to me, it will be nice to get back to the junkers though.

The river rock in the corner used to be landscaping across the back of the fence, we moved it with a loader.
