The evolution of our taste in cars as we mature

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BAILEIGH INC, Aug 8, 2012.

  1. I was born in 1939 and my dad gave me a subscription to Hot Rod Magazine for my 13th birthday in 1952. He cold already see where my interests were!!
By the time I was 16 in 1955 I was already a dyed in the wool Ford fanatic from reading evey Hot Rod Magazine cover to cover for 3 years!! I remember a SAD day in my life when I went to the drag races in the summer of 1955 and saw the new '55 Chevys run off and hide from the 55 Fords!! I was distraught!!!!! The first time I got beat by a Chevy driving my HOT flathead-powered '40 Ford coupe was in by a 1957 Chev. I immediately pulled the flathead and installed a 354 Chrysler hemi....A LONG history of hot rods, dune buggies, hot boats, Corvettes, Cobras, and 4X4's followed that!!!

Born in the 80's ( I know Im a baby compared to some of you) But first build was a Honda CRX growing up as a teen in the 90's in SoCal you were surrounded by it...And my dad was a Barracuda guy had tons of em and he tried his hardest to convert me to american muscle Even talked me into getting a 68 Cuda as my first car I loved it but never got around to finishing it with the busy life of a teen I had a Cj5 jeep and then a Dodgr ramcharger as my Daily drivers through high school.

after high school my brother ended up with the 68 and I found a 76 duster that I had cloned into a 72 Demon, Had a couple other Muscle cars mixed in never cared for anything pre 64, until I was at DVAP in north phoenix a 59 and later wrecking yard. but sitting by the Entrance was a 57 Dodge truck And from that moment on I was obsessed with it the style was nothing I had seen before and It opened my eyes to other forward look mopars. LOVE 57 Furys, Adventurers and 300's and now that I have my own 57 Dodge D100 I still obsess over all mopars from the begining to the present day (except for 80's crap there wasnt anything good then:D)

As Im getting a little older I am trying to be open minded to everything but I like different and rare stuff. not your everyday corvettes and dime a dozen 57 chebbies. Im not really a chevy guy ive never cared for their styling and growing up hanging out with either buddys with Fords or Mopars USALLY are pretty civil but the GM guys were always cocky asses And it just made it so much sweeter the kick there butts up and down the street, So GM as always left a bad taste in my mouth. I dig falcons and thunderbirds maybe 1st gen corvettes, almost any old pickups and The list grows everyday. Though two things have stayed current in my life my love for Mopars and Jeeps I am a avid Jeeper four wheeler, still have my old CJ5 and when The weather is getting bad out I take the jeep out and look for some worse weather, O/T but still cool...

The 2 vehicles got me really started into cars was 53 to 56 ford panels and the Hirohata Merc, probably a good dose of my moms pro street maverick when I was younger helped. I just like old cars, any old car. In my shop at the moment the cars that belong to me are my 66 charger, 67 econo p/u, 69 pro street c/10, 47 f1, 65 mustang gt coupe, 66 fastback mustang, 50 Morris minor, 74 land cruiser and my daily drivers sold my 30 auburn but its still here. Also on the shop but unfortunately not mine but I still love them the same is 64 vette 327/4speed convert, 28 Essex coupe, 32 ford truck, 58 Chevy truck. Then purchased cars that I haven't gotten home yet are 30 stude sedan, 37 Packard, 38 Packard, 37 Lafayette, and a 50 ford coupe. Damn I need to thin the heard! Guess what I'm saying is I like them all. As for 30s and 31s before I sold my rpu I drove it more than any car I had.
