probably because of the dimmer switch? can you unplug it and make a jumper wire to bypass it?

I don’t think anything of making a trip that far one way as a round trip in a day, I may check the oil before I leave but I have faith in my cars.

Not so, it needs some TLC, it’s definitely a cool car. It appears to be complete. What ya got under the hood?, looking at my little screen it appears to be a Y-Block. Love the sound of a Y block in the morning! The afternoon and night also!

  10. its a mostly complete sedan i picked up for cheap as a project when i was 16, little 292 Y block with a 4 barrel, 3 speed and dual exhaust. stuck a set of late 50s/early 60s gauges in it, and a full navajo blanket interior.

the car has 976xx miles. its due for its 100k maintenance.

I didn’t drive nice cars when I was young, my point is the more you drive it the less you worry about driving it.

Driving “shitboxes” as you call it, although I never thought of mine as that, all over is how i learned to not worry about driving old cars all over

My brother always said, if the car will make 10 trips of 50 miles, it will make 1 of 500 miles.

You said you had brake issues.
Check the master. If you have a lot of fluid loss, it’s wrecker time.
Visually check for fluid loss at each wheel. You are looking for leaky cylinders.
If you have fluid loss,…..wrecker time.
    Adjustment……
If the shoes are wearing in, you’ll have less pedal. An adjustment will bring the pedal back up.
Do the adjustment at each wheel with your brake tool or screw driver.
Get each wheel off the ground, spin it and do it properly.
You don’t fart around with vintage brakes. They give one clue…..then it’s emergency brake, 2nd gear and aiming for the softest spot……if you have time.

    If the brakes are questionable
    Park it
    Call a wrecker.

Driving an old car requires discipline because you want to be able to drive it again.
    It’s not just you.

Honestly I feel the same about lights.

Is the car leaking the oil, or burning the oil. It makes a big difference on how easy, and how much money it will cost to fix.

@BJR he brought the car back to life. He's aware that the valves are loose in the guides, but put new seals on. The rings are suspect, but a big problem was the road draft tube leaking, which he repaired. It still has blowby, though. He's fixed a lot of the leaks.
It will take some pretty heavy work to get it perfect. In the mean time, he's going to a meet and having fun while also aware it needs constant monitoring.
Just clicking on his latest posts, it looks like he make it.

He made it, made an impression and fixed things along the longest it's driven so far.
He's also probably gained confidence in himself and the car.
    All top notch.
    Safe travels home you hooligan!
