Most of the cops probably can't identify a 57 Ford Fairlane if their life depended on it. They were following you to figure out what kind of car you were driving. Then they called it in to see if it was legitimate. Once they figured it was all legal, they passed you so they could get away from the small of burning, leaking oil.

Your oil consumption may have dropped on the way home because the rings were seating better. If you can fix the leaks better, it may not use nearly as much oil.

Don't forget to check the strength of your antifreeze, since you have added water to it.

    Clayton and Sophie,

It was a pleasure meeting both of you.

Clayton - you impressed me with the knowledge and enthusiasm you possess. Also your can do attitude.

I'm glad you made it home safely but I had no doubts that you would.

Here's wishing you a great year and we'll see ya next year at LF IV.

From about 1960 to 1965 my Dad had a yellow and white '57 Fairlane 500 4dr with a warmed up 312 w/ 3 speed OD and a 4.09 rear gear. It was the car to beat where we lived in Illinois. When he decided to go back to Hannibal LaGrange College he sold off most of the cars and installed a 430 MEL in the '57. All those that feared that car with the 312 thought the 430 would be a monster that couldn't be beat. Not so of course, but it sold quickly! 312 went into a pink and white '56 Vicky that eventually got a 406 medium riser intake and heads on a 352 with same trans and rear gear.

Those were fun days and your car brought back good memories @The_Cat_Of_Ages ! Thanks for the ride along!

    Dave
