Since this project is going to officially start moving forward sometime in the near future I figured I had better throw together an introduction. I come from the world of Aircooled Volkswagens so this is more than a bit new to me, as I hope you will see though I have some very good motivation to be jumping in to this one. Meet the new family project, 1936 Model 68 Deluxe Fordor Sedan. Here is a quick peek at where it currently sits, in my brother in-laws garage. It is the original colour but not original paint, it is however pretty solid and very complete. Not the original engine, from what I can tell it is a 39/40 Mercury, it was running before being partially stripped and left to sit for a number of years... Now some history, heres the 36 about 20 years ago, before being put into storage. Hey, thats my father in-law! Going by the paperwork, the 36 was last registered in Calgary, Alberta circa 1972 by said father in-law. Does that mean no Out of Province Inspection? This is the oldest picture of the 36 currently in our possession. That happy guy leaning on the back, hes my wifes Grandfather... Are we seeing a theme here? Well, how about the final puzzle piece. Although I have no fancy pictures or at this point the do***ents to confirm the details (I am told they are around somewhere), the story goes that this car was purchased brand spankin new in a then very small place called Airdrie, Alberta, by my wifes Great Grandfather. So, whats the plan? After I can make room in the garage we will be bringing it back home (literally, Airdrie is our home too) and starting the process of getting it back on the road. No immediate plans for a full on restoration, way too much on the go with work, 3 young boys and my other projects. That being said Ive been very lucky to get away with pretty much whatever I want in relation to things with four wheels over the last few years and I know how much this will mean to my wife and my boys, not to mention the rest of the family Im sure, so Ill be doing whatever I can to make it a safe and reliable cruiser once again. I've been collecting a few parts recently, in fact I'm just in the process of stripping a '39 frame this weekend so I'll start a new thread containing the slowest build thread in the history of the HAMB if anyone wants to follow along and offer this newbie some advice.
