Thank you everyone for the nice comments! That old build up gallery is so bad we decided to make a new one that is easier to navigate. The pictures are all there and we are adding the captions as I type this. All the captions should be done in about 15-20 minutes. NEW Build up Gallery HERE
Don, I'm blown away by the talant your dad has. You two have gone over the top on this creation!! I've watched it from the start and now can't believe it's finally done. The level of creativity and innovation that has gone into this project is something you don't see very often. This is one of those projects that inspire people to build their own dream. I wouldn't be supprised to see features of this truck in many projects to come. You've done good Pops. Don, drive the heck out of it!!! Tim
This type of creativity and engenuity is what hot rodding is all about. Doesnt matter whats pushing it. One of the finest cars I have seen here or anywhere else. Hows the milage on that beauty?
Beautiful truck. I like the transplant engine. I bet its Really different to hear a rod with that engine going down the road. The proportions look great. Dont care for the writing on the tailgate. Let them race you if they want to know what its made of.
It's like the road agent- Not a V8 but definitely relevent. It's real steel and looks like ablast to drive. Hell yeah.
I went for a ride in the Rat Patrol, and the Kent Fuller Volksrod your Pa ownes (I know he sold the Rat Patrol, and he had damned well better not sell the Volksrod...) and I can only imagine, with the power to weight ratio that truck must have, what it is like to drive, or ride in... Tell Pops I was the guy who saw the whole thing- he was at the Sacramento Bugorama, writing fake tickets from the Rat Patrol car, for cars that were "too shiny", Too Quiet", "too clean", and other infractions, and when he got to the really clean shiny 1960 Cal-Look car of Andrew Hendrix, and handed him the fake ticket, Mr. Hendrix pulled out his REAL Solano County Sherriff's badge.. I thought your poor ol' Pop was gonna have a heart attack...
Saw the car in person at Deuce Day, looks even better in person. I met Walt also, he joked that he can even were his cowboy hat while driving the truck.
Since a few of you requested it I took a couple of pictures of Walt sitting in the truck. He is about 6' 1" tall. To try to answer a few more questions . The motor isn't broke in or dialed in yet. We are told that we should really try to dial it in at about 3000 miles. Right now it is running really fat and getting awful gas mileage. (10-12mpg) When the motor is broke in we will try to decide if maybe we need to drop down to smaller carbs. We are also having a few problems with the trans. We got it out of a wrecked 914 and hoped it was OK, but its looking like we will have to find someone to go through it for us. We haven't really got on it yet but the engine builder guesses the truck should be capable of mid 12's in the quarter mile when it's all dialed in. We will see. ...
Cant wait to see it in person at SteveMeat next year. What more can be said that hasnt. It's one of the few shiny cars that can actually give me wood! Well done Walt!!!!
