I'd like to find any information possible about Henry Ford's six cylinder racer. I've already compiled quite a lot of information about the racer in it's first two years (1905-1906). However, photos of the 1907-1909 racer (it evolved over time) have been difficult to find. The racer was completed in December 1904, and competed at Ormond Beach (1905), Cape May and Ventnor Beach (1905), Ormond Beach (1906) and probably a few other venues. In 1907 the Ford was scheduled to run in the Vanderbilt race (however I think it was called off, or else the racer didn't make it). Then, while preparing for an attempt at the one mile circular track record, the racer was wrecked in the fall of 1907. Henry Ford soon after said he would take the racer to England to run at Brooklands (but didn't). Then, in 1908 Ford said the racer would run at the Savannah races scheduled for Thanksgiving day 1908 (again, didn't make it). Finally, in July 1909 Henry Ford told the press he would race the six cylinder racer in the Indy races scheduled for August 1909. Again in early August 1909 he said the racer was being readied for the Indianapolis races, however the car didn't make it. I'd like to find any period photos of the racer especially as it was configured later. By 1909 it was called a 150 hp racer, with 6 X 6.5 inch bore and stroke. The following you tube link covers some of the racer's history: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KltTI2L_MuE Thank you for any help, Rob Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Wow, thats one big six banger! Bore and stroke works out to 1103 cubic inches. The time given for the mile works out to 93.264mph. That must have beeen shockingly fast 100+ years ago. --- Steve ---
