    Hello,

It has never been a part of our lives to actually race on the Bonneville Salt Flats or at El Mirage Dry Lake Bed. (other than a full on throttle, hunched down to the handlebars, legs tucked in as close as possible)

That incident was a part of the “Hare and Hound” 50 mile course one way and then the second half course was the El Mirage Dry Lake racing. I had never been on a dry lake before and was told, get in as tight as you can to your desert racing motorcycle. Than meant, tucked in and keep the throttle wide open for the full blast toward the next portion of the desert 50 mile couse.

It was a wonderful feeling being on top of the desert racing motorcycle going as fast as possible. The only thing was, the big 500cc and 650cc bikes geared for high speed runs, flew by like I was standing still. Their idea was the power of the 500/650 cc bikes would take them through the rough stuff. Then, they would p*** everyone on the fairly smooth, flat, dry lake surface. Well, it worked, but they were in a different cl***. Whew!!!

    Jnaki

Being on an “open” motorcycle in the desert dry lake area was exhilarating. But, to be inside of a tube laying down just does not comprehend for this 20 something mind back then and nowadays, no way that would take place trying to control something as fast as a Lakester, laying down. The sight is bad enough, but to lay down, steer, and go fast? That takes a lot of courage and some questionable thoughts.

When I read all of the styles of racers at those two places, Bonneville or El Mirage, it was impressive. Being on an open motorcycle with the wind blasting by was fun, but enclosed? No, thank you…

Racers like the old time guys and even today’s brave souls should be given a medal, just for the idea of going fast enclosed in a “flying tomb.”

Ernie Pereira, 200 MPH Club Member, Belly Tank Racer, is/was well known for his exploits in the black Lakester and the yellow version Lakester at those high speed runs. Being a member of the exclusive 200 MPH Club is an honor not too many have achieved. Kudos to Mr. Pereira !!!

Question Jeff @Jeff Norwell . When you "un-pin" a thread, does it automatically go to "no further replies" status? The reason I ask is, last week @51pontiac had asked for some advice on his drawing techniques and many HAMB artists had chimed in...but the discussion, which could have helped him, and gone on much longer, got closed down.

    Hey HRJ,

If it is not possible to change the Friday Art Rules, save the whole post via a bookmark on your home computer or laptop. That way, it does not matter if the thread disappears on Monday, you have it on your own computer as a bookmark to refer to later. Then since the replies are closed, use PM to contact the person.

    Jnaki

I learned awhile ago that method is the easiest way to keep an old file for reference. Make it a bookmark. But, also note the ***le, it changes weekly, so you can't just search for Friday Art Show. The bookmark will save the whole ***le, different or not and the date. YRMV

  12. Good morning, THANK's to all of you artist on the FAS. I've taken on some new jobs lately, and don't have much extra time. I would also like to hear some of the ways you guys do the cool stuff that you do. I'm kinda P.C. challenged! lol I just use a pencil pen, and my phone. 20171120_230954.jpg 20170210_005314.jpg I didn't want to comment, without adding a picture. So here's a couple oldies.:)

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to answer my questions last week both online and PM. Although I am not sure I will be able to complete the sketch I have started before the thread is closed I will say some of the great suggestions from you folks have hugely helped in my quest for a fun…looser…style of drawing. Thanks!

everyone on the HAMB loves to see work in progress stuff too. Even if it's not at the standard you are shooting for, it is inspiring to see what goes into the process. Can't wait to see your creations Warren.

  23. Nicecar, I like it, but someone please explain to me why this is art? To me it is just a picture of a car at a show. If that is art, I have thousands I could post.

    Hello,

The addition of just photos copied from the internet has its place on Saturday Mornings in the Saturday Art Thread. (Saturday Art Show, Prints, various Artwork, Automotive Related) but, photo credit is necessary for inclusion. Friday Art used to be just drawings by the person posting. Not borrowed art from someone else. Saturday picks up that portion of the rules required for posting, plus just a photo, but credit to the actual photographer.

We do need definite rules posted again so everyone can select which day to post artwork that takes time and energy, Plus creativity. The Saturday thread accepts art photos as long as the photographer is given credit. But, it does take time to research the topic of art in that sense.

Every other thread on the HAMB allows photos without credit, although it should be given. So, photographs should be in other threads and drawn art should be on the Friday Art Thread.

    Jnaki
As a photographer, credit for those that use my photos are necessary. It is just common courtesy and copyright rules, too. We don't specify, but, permission should be a part of using someone else's work, it is a given rule per publications. If you took the photograph, then Saturday Art thread is where it should go. The same thread accepts photo, too, as long as credit is given to the actual photographer and not... "borrowed from another HAMB thread or someone's posted photo on any thread."

Drawn art like @hotrodjack33 AND @Jigger is a given and is always included on the Friday Art Thread, unless of course, the wheels or modifications showcase modern stuff and not traditional HAMB stuff.

Yup I was under the impression that photos were not allowed here, but @Jeff Norwell would know for sure? Hey Jeff are photos of cars considered art here???

this is true. I was just under the impression that there were certain guidelines for this thread. I don't know what they are.....

I agree with Jack, photography " IS " art.
It's the composition of the photograph that really makes a big difference.

A lot of what has been posted here on the FAS has been some stunning photography, especially when the person that shot the photograph, takes the time to really crop it down to show particular detail of various parts of the car.

It would be a real loss, if none of us regular participants and contributors, were not allowed to post our photography here.

That is just my 8 cents worth.
    8 cent stamp 2 (2).jpg

    Thanks from Dennis.
