Photography is a form of Visual Art...Many Photographers deny that and that contributes to the confusion...Then there's Artists who create Art and deny they're Artists...also confusing...

To get deeper into this subject that T-bird is a form of Art even before the pic was taken...It began as a Design on a Drawing board at Ford proper then it went through major scrutiny, refinements and even Sculpted in the Clayroom by Artists...It was m*** produced and was a literal form of Mechanical Art that was purchased by those that appreciated it for many things including what it said to their eyes...

Then the Hotrod/Custom crowd gets their turn at making it what they want it to be and it becomes in fact a third or what is it, 4th round of Art...and then the m***es that appreciate it Photograph it, draw it, paint it, some are Professionals some Amateur, none the less still Artists...

So Everything from the Design in 50 something to the Custom in that Photo including the Photo are a form of Art that is HUGELY subjective as you have proved by questioning it...It would be nice if anyone posting just says here's a pic I took at a show and I really thought it was special or this is an awesome pic I found on the net and it speaks to me that would have been much appreciated...however there would still be those that would question it, just as there would be those that hate yellow anything or hate anything but stock T-Birds...

It's complicated and deep but yes Photography at its core is an Art.

Yes. Photography is art.... as long as it follows the boards ideals.

  7. So does a "standard" photo of a car at a car show follow the ideals for this thread?
I agree photos can be art such as this one posted by @Stogy in the last Friday Art Show:

I believe that this is art, but then again, I can't draw a straight line. It is a Hudson hood ornament that has gold plated wings.

Its again subjective but many can capture an image which needs no editing...editing or not a Photograph is still considered an Artwork...My work you shared is considered a Photo manipulation with many elements such as the front fenders and the mountains are drawn and colored in the program by me...This subject of Art is very diverse...This whole site is hugely dependent on the sharing of the Art of Photography...

    FirstFlight.jpg

    ABoneMiltonorig.jpg

...The Original is below...both are considered a form of Visual Art...

I take tons of pictures...many are never more than the shot I took but some resonate as something I could see in a frame before I do something to it. I am Post secondary Trained in many forms of Visual Art...Photography is a love but self nurtured...

@carcruse please share some of your best...This is open to All Hambers

...Hamber @Mr48chev took the image below and shared it some time ago in a show Thread...I did share this with him via PM and in the Thread, with thanks, as I took his image which he felt just squeeked by the guidelines and Hambed it up a little...That was my impetus to take it back in inspiration...This was a lengthy Stogyism but worth it in my opinion...I hate hoods up at shows but sometimes that's what we have to play with...

48 takes a lot of pics he did his best to bring us the images...is it Art...It is I suppose but a true judge of Photography would have no doubt suggested to have it moved to a more complimentary place. The car sure outlooks its surroundings that's for sure...

Truth be told Car Shows and Cruises are incredibly challenging for capturing a money shot I like to call them...and many times the Digital tools are employed in varying degrees...

  12. I agree with @JeffNorwell, art in all it’s forms is welcome here, but always make sure that the content of that art is HAMB appropriate.

...I shot these...In my opinion both resonate as Art but I thought the Black and White added something...Beyond that is the Art of @HomemadeHardtop57 the builder, The 2nd owner VoodooTwin who added to Jerry's Creation with I believe the fenders, headlights and a few other details hidden and @Koz who was responsible for the Top working with Jerry in tandem on it...I mention those names alot as almost the first thing people say is Nice Hotrod did you build it...

...I made the best of a Hood up at a cruise night...even if 90% of the stuff is off topic there's always something you can take a shot of that you can share with the gang here...I believe this was a Monarch...

So true...such an unfortunate, incredibly sudden, sad situation indeed...we share in the loss of this man who has touched us all over the years with his multi tiered connections with the culture...

I have always liked hand lettered stuff, every artist had his own style. Nice that you included a picture of the sign with your car to see the size of the sign.

Still in shock over the tragic loss of Pat Ganahl at Toutle Washington. As a tribute to him, I share these photos I shot of his cool G.M.C. powered dragster that was at FAMOSO a number of years back, at the CHRR.
Pat was the very heart of the Hot Rod world !

    32D3A6A6-03F6-4562-B594-B5685B6FD9EF.jpeg Is photography art?
I’ll take a shot at that question.
Photography CAN be art but is not necessarily art even though the subject may be considered art in itself. It seems to me the person taking the photo needs to be aware of the subject, the composition, the light and the setting. They need to be able to create art with the tool (the camera or computer) that they are working with. A photo of a car surrounded by other cars or with people walking by is filled with distractions and is just a picture of a car. Sometimes the shooter needs to wait or create the right situation that distinguishes an art photo from just a photo. This truck was found on the Montana prairie. I was fortunate to catch it in good light that contributed to the feeling of neglect and loneliness. There was more junk around but I was able to crop the shot to avoid the distractions from the overall feeling I hoped to convey to the viewer.

  26. Well said. That is basically what I was getting at with my post.
Here are 3 of my photos. One I would say is art, one borderline art, and one just a photo of my car at a show (as the T-Bird photo I questioned was).

Whether it's created, or captured, art should evoke some kind of emotion. I'd be hard pressed to create a piece of artwork that arouses as much emotion as THAT photograph does...that my friend is art!!!
