Is there room for a couple more cents worth??? o_O
To me there is picture taking; and then, there is photography, used as a very powerful art form.
The cars are the stars, and I try to portray their individual characteristics. I am not a professional with expensive equipment, but a well-seasoned amateur, with decades of experience, who takes my own personal approach in sharing my perspectives. It not only brings me pleasure capturing these images, but I have been able to see others enjoy the fruits of my efforts many times over. The artist in me strives for clean compositions, free of distractions like trash cans, porta potties, beer guts, and unwanted reflections. I concentrate not only on the subject, but the angles, the line of sight, the lighting, the textures, layers, colors, and even the mood. I am self-taught; the style is my own; the camera is my brush; the edit is where I paint. FUN as can be! :)

The photos here on page 3 are just great to see.

You make some very valid points, but I am not that cerebral. I just go to shows and cruises and take pictures of cars that I like and share them with other guys. I try and crop out the other stuff that I feel is in the way. @Tom davison is a remarkable photographer and @Jeff Norwell is an outstanding artist and both should be admired. I call my work: "early neanderthal". But that's cool. :D

@robber: I agree 100%. Anybody can snap a picture. But photography is a different matter. For a picture to be art, it has to be artistic I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but just posting a picture of a car you like is not art unless the photograph itself has some artistic qualities to it.

Never be afraid to crop the image and show the detail. Composition and clarity, go a long way in telling the story you wish to convey.

I'm chuckling looking at this...is it a poke at the Engine or was it something about the Artist reflected in the bullet...:D

I want to apologize to the member who posted the info on the Brush I commented on that was removed yesterday...I just realized it was referencing the Brush Automobile shared in an image by @chryslerfan55...while it might seem obvious to the poster a little explanation with your post might help connect the dots in the future...

Well that is definitely yours truly as the idiot in the reflection, over all it was my way of making a new
" ALIEN " grin out of the NASH grille, in conjunction with the grille of the Ford. Just having fun with various car parts, that usually are never seen together.
    Grin.

I actually was thinking those two images could be fused together as a sea of chrome and that's exactly what you were implying...neat...:)

Mixing it up is kind of the thing to do in Hotrod/Custom...you know that visual art thing...

I've stayed away from this discussion because I was here when the pencil and paint artists were upset because there were too many photos and not considered art. I agree with @robber's e xplanation of pictures and Photography. Jeff has set the ground rules and I accept them.
Here is some of my work.

This is ART… and Bernice. It is not, however, photographic art. It is a snap shot. Some ‘photos’ are a snapshot of life. Lighting, staging, composition, texture, balance, negative space, a focal point and emotion must all be considered in creating photographic art. Timing, too is everything.
Wait, this may actually be Benny and Agatha…
Getting my Bs and As twisted…

Stogy said it well by the way….

I did this in tribute to the Late Hamber Pgan aka Pat Ganahl who tragically p***ed at an Event in Washington Friday...I used one of @41 GMC K-18's images above to put this together...

As difficult as this is we pull together in times like this and Pat has left us with a lifetime of memories and good times to remember him by not to mention his many unique ride over the years...He shared so many cl***ic pics over the years here and on his site connecting them with the stories over the years. His interests in Hotrod/Custom were very diverse which I really appreciated...Thanks Pat...Your Spirit lives on...

    Regards, Stogy

@hotrodjack33, I suspect the loss of Pat might have hit you a little harder than many of us Magazine readers as he was on the Streetrodder Team...but I have to say I was up when that news hit yesterday early or late Friday...instant shock...I enjoyed his vintage images shared with stories and history on his site that went with those images...he featured the other or oddball stuff that was influential regardless of origin...the 6 banger are beasts of an inline feather...Yeah he did a lot of cool ****...

You are in my thoughts Jack...I of course share in the loss with all of you...some very close to him...thats gotta hurt...

RIP Pat...No Speed limits up there...

    Regards,
    Stogy

There's one pic I took and it seriously had an optical illusion due to a reflection...the Coupe, a river and a houseboat...gotta find it!

Hey Hambers great Art Show enolving and winding down thoughts are with Pat and those close to Hamber Pgan...many, many here...be safe all...

One has to be very careful of reflections. I did a photo of pinstriping on a piece of Plexiglas but couldn't post it because of the reflection of me in just underwear. Next week will be one of the best I'll bet.
