Hello, Max Balchowsky’s Buick powered 1958 Doretti Sports Car showed up at the old San Gabriel Dragstrip. Chromoly tubular steel ladder chassis built from Reynolds tubing and the powerful Buick motor he is known to add a few more horsepower than most… But, as we all know Tommy Ivo and his Buick experiences, he had a hand in making this unusual roadster go fast and faster. Jnaki A little Doretti history: The name “Doretti” after Dorothy Deen, who ran a successful business selling sports car accessories under the Doretti name. "This is one of Max's cars . It's in Europe now and restored to Factory with the TR drive line. This is chassis #1068 for future reference. Although I never got to inspect this car it appears to have maintained most of its original parts. One floor pan seems to have been transplanted from another car . This is the third car with a louvered hood that I've seen. Max 's car did not have the open scoop. The other hood I have pics of had a chrome opening ala '56 Thunderbird . The registration number of this car was: Calif. QEF 367. Car was black with red interior." "Dorothy Dean and Jim Sitz told me that Max bought at least 3 and possibly 4 Dorettis from her and converted them to 'Nailhead' Buick power. He sold them but kept and raced one car. Jim seems to think they were all black. Tom is a Doretti expert. Tom has a photo of the remains of Max's personal Doretti with Tom standing next to it. Tom at one point had located three Balchowsky Dorettis. Max used his car in both drag racing and road racing." Note: Perhaps, the Ivo-Balchowsky combo would have been good for this next version to compete in the A/SP or AA/SP sports car class… later on…YRMV
Artwork can be displayed in a variety of different ways. I posted this on another thread on the antiquated, but now that I have figured out the way to download to YouTube, I figured I would submit this to this weeks (FAS). I call it the "Buck Rogers Space Nerd Rescue Beacon Transmitter". It lives in my front yard, along with some other of my creations. Its basically a Ford COE headlight with a couple of vintage MOPAR tail lights that are solar powered, and mounted on a custom bicycle wheel on a pole connected to my fence. Enjoy from Dennis.
Still packing a bunch of dead critters after my last road trip, taken in the garage as I sat and had a beer when I got home.
Amazing how quickly a years time, fly's by, so its Memorial day weekend again, I shot this photograph of the big American flag on this tree, out in the country side at Sonoma California about 12 years ago. Thanks to all that served!
I count 11 Aliens and one Alien flying saucer space ship, and one Area 51 Brick! Everyone's results may vary greatly, till @rusty1 gives us the official count!
Happy FAS folks. I don't say it every week, but as ALWAYS, if any of you have any use for my old artwork, FEEL FREE to reuse it for anything... flyers, business cards, or any other project you might have. Flyer artwork. T-shirt design. Cartoon from Street Rodder Magazine.
A 1/25th scale model of my 1955 Pontiac Safari; made from a AMT Nomad kit and a JOHAN 55 Pontiac dealer promo. Striping was harder to do than on the real car.
With all the talk of finding aliens in Sam’s @rusty1 drawings, I had to go look close at one he did for me. I find a big zero unless I am just blind?!?!
as always pro street and cars with large diameter wheels are strictly off topic.... and I really shouldn't have to say it
"Steadfast... As we remember those who are forever in our hearts, have a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend! Surround yourself with people you love, get some sun, have some FUN, and partake in a bit of your favorite seasonal food & beverages! Celebrate speed this weekend by means of "The Brickyard"... Got milk??? Cheers, Rob
I counted 10 aliens and one space ship. Don't think the ship would count. Have to wait to find out for sure from the artist.
