What it may have to do with us is that there is a bill that has been circulated in congress to have a expiration date of 6 yrs from date of manufacture for any highway tire. It further states that any tire past this date cannot be repaired for any reason, flat etc, while most daily drivers will wear out the tires prior to 6 yrs those of us that have a FEW cars that don't get driven all the time may very well have tire at that age., So on the road flat tire,if you need a repair won"t happen,Sorry sir you will need a new tire.So a lot of people will say screw that fix myself, Great but now let's suppose you are involved in a accident, tire are past the legal date /age, I can see the lawyers lining up now. All this **** for newer cars WILL filter down and affect us in someway.

I replace my tires regularly and can still buy new from the above mentioned sources - I also carry a spare wheel/tire and I have AAA Premium package for when the tire cannot be fixed....

Did this guy give you a card, or did he just tell you he was a big cheese in the tire industry after he'd had a few drinks?

"Changing tires by any non-authorized parties voids any and all vehicle warranties." There, done, not that hard to do and didn't involve one design change to any wheel or tire.

I have been hearing a complete different direction from the engineering, and design side from many auto company's in the last few years. (I am a automotive clay sculptor.)

I could see the tire manufactures liking this non-repairable tire stuff seance they are the one that would profit from it not the auto makers.

From what I have been hearing, what I see happening in the future is that you will not get a spare tire with your new car. What you will get is a patch kit, and a few cans of like fix a flat to put air back in your tire. Part of the reason you are going to see this that it will help reduce weight which improves gas mileage. <-- Thank are government once again for there new mpg ratings. Also by doing this in turn it will be cheaper for the auto manufacture in the long run to.

Very true. But it would also be just one more reason you will never see my shadow darkening the grounds of a new car sales lot again.

Its already been difficult to get repairs around here . They use whatever excuse they can to not fix a tire….only the small shops don’t try to ******** you into a new tire.

Nope, depending on the year a less than 100 buck scan tool and an understanding of how modern automotive systems operate.And...70 years ago,how many couldn't work on their own car, that would be many considering there were repair garages on every corner.
