So since my move to Japan a year ago I have been keeping quiet on getting another hotrod. Hell I haven`t even gone to look at any cars in the past year.
I started on a little chopper project to fill the void but it`s just not the same as tearing in to a car. Know what I mean?<O:p
It has been very depressing.<O:p
Well boys and girls things have just started looking up for me here in the land of the rising sun.<O:p
I `am now the proud owner of an original as in stock 1929 model a roadster! Here`s the back story:<O:p
For years there has been stories about a roadster sitting up in the northern part of that island that is registered and running, and of course the old guy won`t sell. I have seen the car twice in the past, once when it was is great shape and the owner was taking care of it and once after the salt air had started to take its toll and it had turned into an outdoor storage.<O:p
Well shortly after my return to[FONT=ＭＳ Ｐゴシック]
the island my buddies where quick to tell me that the car had disappeared. I figured it had been sold or it had just been junked liked most of the cars on this itty bitty island are. <O:p
Fast forward to two weeks ago and I get a call from a friend that I haven`t talked to in quiet awhile and he says <O:p
Hey Joe wanna buy a roadster?<O:p
First of all, when I get a call like that I`m always a bit su****ious, so I ask <O:p
Wadda ya mean a roadster? <O:p
He replies <O:p
Yeah the guy that owns the one up north just called me and wants to sell. <O:p
Of course I was all sorts of excited that the car was still around and not sitting at the bottom of some junk pile. <O:p
Ok I`ll be honest. <O:p
I was acting like a 16 year old on prom night with a limo and a pocket full of rubbers.<O:p
The only worry I had was what kind of shape it was in. Heck I hadn`t seen the car in like 4 to 6 years and the salt air will rust plastic if you leave it outside long enough.
Anyway, my buddy re***ures me that he has looked the car over, under, inside and out and it is still in great shape. We agree on a price and it is now sitting my in once empty and depressing garage.<O:p
<O:p
But no more!<O:p

My buddy Yoshi was President of What's Pumpkin F100 club in Japan, I couldn't believe the amount of American Iron on that little Island, I sold a 54 F100 Panel to a guy who uses it for his business.....Congrats! Good score here, HUGE score there, I am sure.....JW

Congratulations. Great story. Do you know the history of the car? How long has it been in Japan?

Well as far as I know the car has been on the island for about 15 years or so. It still has the mainland plates and registration. I can`t read japanese, it all looks like a chicken took a stroll through some ink and across some paper. So, I gotta get the wiffy to translate for me.
I guess third times a charm since this is the third awesome car I have owned during my stays on the island.
My first score was a super clean `29 tudor with 7500 original kilometers that came out of Argentina abot 25 years ago.
The second was a full blown custom `53 Chevy hardtop that I scored out the mainland and now the roadster. Good timimg I guess.

Anyway,
The plans are to hotrod the hell out of it and just enjoy it.
So far my engine choices are
an early Desoto hemi (if the owner can find the key to his shed)
a 292 y block out of a `55 f-100
a first gen L98
or a straight six with triple carbs.
Dropped axle and hopefully the rear end out the f-100

That`s all later so for now I`m just gonna see if I can get the little 4 banger running and play with it for a bit.
I`m gonna keep the rumble seat. Our friends back home took my wife and I for a ride in thier model a and the wiffy feel in love with the rumble seat.

Anyone got a photo of a chopped and channeled full fendered roadster handy or wanna do a bit of photchopping for me?

You might want to check those rubbers in salt air or you'll end up with more than you can handle.LOL

HA HA we don`t need any half mexican babies running around slinging burrtios with chrome chopsticks:D

There a few original late to early thrities fords and chevys running around but the prices are freaking crazy! Finding anything over that is worth saving for a good price is a very rare thing indeed.
