History The Gaskill '36 Coupe ... PICS from 1977

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HEMI32, Oct 8, 2008.

  1. I was looking through some more of my father's old photographs ... and came across a few B&W prints of Jerry Gaskill's beautiful 1936 Ford 3-window Coupe:

    JERS 36 (1).jpg
    JERS 36 (2).jpg
    JERS 36 (3).jpg

NOTE: These photos were taken at the: 4th Annual Tire Kick'n Run - dash plaque.jpg where Jerry's '36 won an award! :)

I'm really curious if anyone has some more information about the car and/or its current whereabouts.

    Update #1

I searched the H.A.M.B. archives and noticed that a few HAMBers (@Cruiser, @A32Flathead, @Deuce Daddy Don, & @Silhouettes 57) have posted that they know Jerry and/or his Olds ... perhaps one of you have some info on his '36 ... does he still own it?

    Update #2

Wow ... the power of the H.A.M.B.!!!

In less than an hour, I have received several PMs telling me that Jerry still owns the car ... and that it still looks the same as it did back in 1977.

This news that Jerry's '36 is a "Survivor" makes me very, very happy
    :)

    Update #3

I'll be contacting Mr. Gaskill via e-mail (thanks guys for his addy) to try to get some specific details / stories about his '36 ... but feel free to contribute any info or more pics to this thread ... I'd say The Gaskill '36 Coupe is a perfect fit for discussion on the H.A.M.B.!

Jerry is one heck of a guy. A1 street rodder to say the least....His Olds is neat too...

  4. I know Jerry, hell of a nice guy, I was introduced to him by Cruiser on here. He would be the best guy to talk to.

Jerry has owned the car (IIRC) since either the late '60's or early '70's...and it still looks the same. It has a tram bell mounted under the floor, Jerry told me it was the 'hot item' back in the day. Its still (as far as I know) in Jerry's garage, and if it isn't, I wanna know who stole MY car :D

Here's the only shot I have of the car, took it in Bakersfield in 2003.

His Old's is on the back of his business cards, and (IIRC) either a clone or close to the car he had back in the day...

I've emailed Jerry & let him know about this thread.

  6. I've known Jerry forever (since our stint in the NSRA in the 70's) Can't imagine him selling the '36.

That car was the reason my wife said "sure, great" when I told her I was buying a '36 3W. She would have been perfectly happy if I'd just cloned it.

He brought it to Paso several times during the first several years I went, but I don't think I've seen it there for at least eight or ten years. Too bad; neat car.

Jere's 36 3wnd is the best description of a nostalgic street rod from the late 40's that I know of. We exchange jokes & info on a daily basis, & have known each other since the 1970's, he is really a class act!!!!----------Don

You couldn't not have picked a better hot rodder to talk about. Jerry is one guy who has done a lot for our car hobby and works hard at making it better. Jerry's Olds is a clone of a car he own from many years ago, it's black as hell. I've sent this thread to Jerry and he'll love seeing the old photo's and that Hemi32 posted this cool thread about his '36 Ford 3/W. Jerry has a saying, "My two favorite colors are black and chrome."
Once you talk to Jerry, Hemi32 he can fill you in on the cars history. Let me know how things go. VERY COOL THREAD..........

Man if it wasn't for Hamers, all I would get to see is Honda's and Toyota's with chrome tail pipes (and 40 speakers) That is a serious 36, and to think he still ownes it after almost 40 yrs, and its still CHERRY. Ice man

That is the most perfect 36 that you could build. What a knockout!! Chrome window moldings, white tuck and roll, real spots, black finish, single bar flippers, Whitewalls. Jerry has xclnt taste. What a way to start my day seeing this classic rod. Thanks for the post!~blissed out~Sololobo

Jerry Gaskill and I have been friends for years. We still keep in touch almost daily thru e-mail with jokes to each other and we share the same thoughts politically so the e-mails are flying back and forth.
He's been a car guy from the get go back to the days when Santa Maria had it's own drag strip in the 50's (see picture). You can get a ton of old school info on the car culture from this man and you can take it to the bank.

That '36 is gorgeous! Great to hear he still has it in the same condition--not sitting on slot mags with white-letter tires, or repainted in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme.

For those who may not know, Jerry was Pres. of Santa Maria's Bent Axles car club for a long time. The B.A's put on a car show once a year that is a three day event. If you live on the Central Coast make sure you try it. It draws cars from as far aways as Az., Nv., So Cal, and No Cal... One of the best shows I can think of...

  28. I live in West Vriginia now but when I lived in Santa maria Ca. Jerry was the president of The Bent Axles car club and he was instrumental in getting us all together. His club and ours used to do a lot of cruises together and we always had a good time. Good guy and a good friend with three cars last time I saw him, don't forget the big yellow Cad 63 I think all nice classy cars. Rags

  29. Did anyone hear from Jerry? I just resent the link to this thread....

  30. I emailed him ... but no reply ... yet ...
