I'm sure lots of you guys love the "hunt". Finding parts for a build is part of the fun. I've started sourcing parts slowly but surely. Very slowly. I have a transmission (F-150 5 Speed), Hurst shifter for said 5 speed, an engine (5.0 Ford, needs 100% rebuild), an instrument cluster (early Bronco) and a couple other odds an ends. The plan is to build a T. I was totally on board with a 'glass T that I hear may no longer be in production. Which sucks. Still have to confirm. But it may really just be a sign to build a T tub. Always have had a thing for tubs. Tonight I scored the induction package. I found a complete Edelbrock dual quad setup for a SBF. Intake is in like new condition. Doesn't even look like it's been bolted down. Seller said it was. Has two manual choke 500 Edelbrock/AFB carbs with fuel lines and the progressive linkage. Doesn't smell like it's had fuel in it either. Planning on putting it on top of a mild 331 when the time comes.
I love the hunt but it's even more fun when you finally put those parts to use. I'm at that stage right now where everything is starting to come together. My problem is I bought all this stuff over a period of years and I'm not sure where I put half of it. Other stuff I realize I bought 3 or 4 copies of over the years because I forgot I bought them. Oh well, I guess that gives me an excuse to go to the swap meet...who am I kidding? If I take stuff to sell at the swap meet I'll just come home with more parts that I forgot I already bought.
When I first bought my 57 20 years ago I started buying shit for it. Over the years I lost track of what I had bought and ended up with multiples of parts! Basement was so full I had no idea where what was. Now that the car is finally driving around I can sell off what extras I have. Its either that or start another build.....
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-vOQ-jy0Aw4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I love searching for parts for my build. Sometimes it turns into finding very cheap parts for future builds or trading for the parts you really want. The hunt is better than the catch...
I am starting to gather parts for my 37 Dodge pickup, lovin every minute of it. Not looking for nothing spical, but it has to be from that time and I have to like it. Latest buy hub caps, I don't even have wheels yet.
The acquisition of parts for my Olds has slowed down to a trickle or a halt (depending on whose looking) more so than usual now that my wife and I have just had our first baby. . . . . This build is going to take a while. Oh well, you cant rush a great thing. Adam
I finally bought a couple pieces for my parts pile after buying nothing in almost a year. I've noticed that I pretty much have two of everything, except those parts that I need , like a body!
For years I have gathered parts for my big build and I hope I am getting closer, I hope! Maybe this fall I will start the build, maybe here on the HAMB, a build thread. I have 98% of the drivetrain stockpiled and have been working on gathering sheetmetal, rubber, glass, all the fun stuff.
More than one Hamb car has been built around something that was bought for a different project and then forgotten in the back of the storage area. My boat tail project started out as an unidentified but cool looking cowl that a friend of Vince Alcott had in his booth at the Yakima swapmeet 25 years ago and sold to me for 10 bucks and bought because I had some extra bucks that day from selling and couldn't find anything that I really wanted to buy. pieces have been accumulating ever since. I am cleaning the garage and sheds in the next few months and setting up some project specific storage for each project where the parts will be kept and getting rid of everything that isn't designated for a project that I have. Way too much left over crap from rigs I scrapped because I bought them for an engine or something and saved a few extra parts.
