Over the holiday, when visiting family, my mom gave me this old coin from 1938 (pictured below). It's been sitting on a shelf where I keep my keys, wallet, wedding ring, etc. Every time I see it, my curiosity peaks. This old man, George, I've yet to meet brought my mom this "coin" from 1938. She befriended him and like most moms she talks about her kids. In their conversations, she's brought up hot rods and what I'm into. He's had this coin a while. It's a piece that's made it through different homes, states, an apartment where he's spending some of his final days, and then onto me. So, even though, I presume it's some sort of advertising campaign-type of thing, I'd love to find out some more. Maybe it's something I could relay back to George in a note I could send back home? I think he'd appreciate that. Anyhow, I think it's copper and it has a business man centered on one side of the coin saying, THE "GO GET IT AND KEEP IT' CAMPAIGN and below the man it has APRIL-MAY 1938. On the reverse side it says, "IT SHALL BE DONE" with Chevrolet being written beneath it inside the logo. I put it next to my wedding band as a size reference, anyone have any clue what it is or the history that surrounds it? Thanks a bunch, Brent.
You're probably right. I went over to vcca.org but there's a membership fee and since I'm not a vintage Chevy guy, I couldn't justify it.
I just happened on this thread, so sorry for the late response. I also have one of these coins. My research tells me that it was all to do with a sales push at the dealers in April and May of 1938. There were also paper weights given to top sales people.
