A little back ground first, im 47 years old an have been into cars my whole life because of my dad (who passed away last March) and myself have never owned a hot rod or street rod. I guess with the passing of my dad i now have the desire to own or build one so i started looking and have always dreamed about finding that "Barn find" and last weekend it happened. I found a 1946 Ford Club Coupe that has been kept in a barn for the last 50 years. The guy wanted $5500 for the car, i took the chance and offered him $4500 and he took it, that is the good. The bad was right beside this car was a 1940 Standard Coupe in pristine condition....not for sale! UGH! I hate to see that because they usually just sit there and rot. I'll try to post a few pics of both cars.
That 46 coupe will make a great driver,I believe these cars have gained a lot of popularity in the past few years, good luck. HRP
Wow very nice fine .This is the place to be for good information . please post up dates , DON'T GIVE UP ON THAT 40 THINGS CHANGE ! best of luck.
Keep track of it from time to time. Maybe when you get that '46 runnin' drive it over to show him to let him know you are a serious dude about our car hobby. If he looks like the "restored original" kinda guy it may be best not to show up with it lowered and flamed. Your call.
The 40 would likely be twice or more the $$$$$ too, if that matters. Sometimes it doesn't. Enjoy the one you got. Originals are "the way" lately so your fun is about to multiply a bit.
When i got there to look at the '46 i walked up to the passenger side thinking wow this is nice!! I walked to the back to go around and the '40 caught my eye and i said "Whoa, what the heck is this?? You never said anything about a '40 Ford" He said, Yea cause it's not for sale! He was quick to point that out. When i go to pick up the '46 this weekend i'll let him know that if he ever decides to sale the '40 to let me know.
That's a real decent '46, congrats. Like said, stay in touch about the '40. Things and situations can change, sometimes overnight. Be sure he has your contact info & touch base occasionally without being a PITA about it. Showing that you're still interested an haven't forgot about it.
Congrats on new project - what are plans for it? had a '47 that I wish was in my garage now. '46-'48 great looking.
Well the paint is not the original paint, the guys dad shot a coat on it a long time ago and it's peeling and cracking all over so were going to sand it down and see where to go from there, i like the patina look but we'll see. As far as the drive train im thinking 9" Ford rear and dropped staright front axle, depending if i can get it down low enough, if i can't i might go bags, i like em low!!!! Were looking for a small block chevy now for it but nothing to rank, just a good dependable driver.
