Technical The Great 327 ID Thread= AGAIN!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by INVISIBLEKID, Nov 19, 2019.

  1. SO- Long story short, kinda...... Trying to decipher the 327 in my PoP's C-10, again.......
Finally got a good scope to see the numbers..........
Back tracking, and a lil history/info= This IS a CE engine. Earliest memories are from the early 70's going to pick it up at the Chevy dealer in town.
Now- by looking on the web( lol), they were offered in different configurations= how they came "in the "crate". This was actually on the show room floor, as I remember the day....
Specs= Long block. had a timing cover, a short h20 pump, plain VC's, and an oil pan. That was it.
    You added the rest.......
To help decipher this, it did come with a canister oil filter, which I changed to spin on in later years. It wears a correct thin 327 balancer/damper.
Now the numbers- The front stamping in the block surface is= CE7P26807C,then,(a mangled stamp here),Next digit- but could be an "E", then B.
On the back of the block, drivers side, is= 3959512 =CE
The rear pass side of the block reads A227
The heads it still wears are the very first interaction of "camel humps" the very small ones. shows a casting of 168's, or 492's. = haven't pulled a VC to verify because everything is sealed, and doesn't leak! Been many years since this was purchased. Pop has been gone a while, and cannot ask him when exactly we bought it, but actually what year it was made.
I'de seek to find out what year this thing really is......... Possibly 67? The net is too conflicting.

If anyone can decipher this, I'de greatly appreciate it. Thanks-Kid
And- since I'm on a mission to figure this out, any other info I can provide, I will.

Block was cast January 22, 1967

pull the valve covers, look for that type of casting date code on the heads. That's probably the only thing that will tell you much useful info about the engine.

3959512 block was used 62-67 327 and the date code indicates Jan. 22 1967. the most important thing is this is a small journal engine. These are getting hard to find. cylinder head numbers can be checked here http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/heads.html
