The Great HAMB Perspective Survey...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Big A, Jan 17, 2004.

  1. Yeah, it's a lot of reading material, but if more people paid attention to the fact that we all come at this from different angles, then maybe Ryan wouldn't be so ****ing exhausted, and some of the people with real knowledge wouldn't get pissed off and leave.

I've been thinking about PERSPECTIVE a lot lately...

Ever told someone their paint was too shiney? Too flat? Their seaweed flames too snakey? Complained that their spiders should be bullets and their bullets should be blue dots? Laughed at someone because their zoomies had no zoom and their blinker oil was red instead of amber? Don’t like someone’s choice of muffler bearings and think their patina lacks pedigree?

Well, step right up and don’t be shy. We’re all friends here aren’t we?! Take the survey and win a prize! You will be astounded and amazed! You might even learn something. Walk a mile in another man’s shoes. On a clear day you can see the world through another hot rodders eyes.

This, my friends, is the Great HAMB Perspective Survey...

    F) Nothing. No time, no money, no skills, no knowledge, no tools, no ‘car’ friends, no garage, and no car... but for some reason I love this ****

This is not a test. Don’t worry about being right or wrong. In fact, there are no right answers. For every box you check off there will be someone to tell you you are wrong.
Once all the data is collected and collated, you will be notified as to which other people answered the questions exactly the same as you did. From that point on, you will only ***ociate with those people who look, act and dress like you, drive the same year, make and model car with the same paint scheme and wheel/tire combo. You will buy matching jackets and stand-united to point fingers, criticize and laugh at everyone else.
Everyone else will be doing the same thing back.

I’m interested in traditional hot rods and customs because I am (R) a historian, (S) stuck in a different time dimension and (T) cooler than everyone else.

The ultimate surface is (M) open road.

I want to impress (G) myself but impressing chicks would be cool, too.

Cars should go. (H) Yes, they should

    Cars are (A) fun.

I look at Mark Moriarty’s Roth clones and think to myself (D) Why would anyone do that?

When I need parts I go to (B) the junk yard.

I pay for cars and parts with (D) I scrounge a little cash and sometimes, if I’m lucky, (H) I don’t pay, Dad has the money.

A “car guy” that I admire is (L) Vern Tardell, (N) John Milner and (S) my dad.

Which one applies (A) I’ve heard of the Hirohata Merc and (H) I think Mamie van Doren is (or, rather, was) hot.

Import guys are (E) simply another perspective on the same basic interest and (G) not my concern.

My bumper sticker says nothing, I’d never screw up the chrome like that.

A real hot rod tattoo is… (E) What the **** does this have to do with cars?

I am more dedicated to traditional rods and customs than you because I grew up (B) in middle America with a back yard full of tractors.

I am (G) just an average schmuck with an interest in cars.

I have a muscle car and ambition for a trad-type hot rod.

Cool survey...I did it...but the checks didn't seem to stick...and you forgot to add another name to several of those items: MYSELF (yourself?).

It's true...no one thinks like me, likes the exact same stuff I do, the same cars nor the same women...and that's wonderful...I'd really hate to have another me running around here.

  5. Great survey Big A.
    Another great surface is ICE!
Easy donuts in the Beer Store parking lot on Sundays in Ontario back when they couldn't open on "The Lord's Day". Watch out for lamp posts tho! (Why frozen quarries were invented) [IMG]

  6. What a coincidence! We used to have beers in the donut store parking lot! [IMG]

I can't believe I forgot ice. Some Canuck I am. We used to go up to the university parking lot and do donuts. What a howl.

The last time I ever watched my dad race was on a frozen track in a quarry, driving a 69 Barracuda. Must've been a handful.

Survey SAYS................I'm a broke caraholic who doesn't mind working on his own stuff because he has to. Wishes he was born in the 50's so that he could enjoy the cool stuff that came out then, and in the 60's. Enjoys talking about cars, and likes to hang out with the same-minded people.

    Asphalt is the ultimate surface.

I like old cars cause I like to tinker...

cars should go fast, AND handle (turn!)

Old cars, I like to impress myself with...

Import guys? I am one. Impress chicks? With the import.

The ONE thing about imports that I would like to impress upon all of you...

is in my sig... on level ground, normally aspirated 4 cyl, 2.0L, and cost at least $15k less than a cobra... and won't break nearly as soon...

I can't answer the survey, way to many of the answers apply.

Did you know 4th gear in an 03 cobra will put you at about 130 going down magic mountain parkway, and its a six speed too. Blowers are cool.
