  2. Man... I love seeing Japanese customs. Those folks seem to have more and more orginal ideas the more I see photos of car shows over there. I still question those trucks with 5 million flashing lights, but they know how to make a hot rod, I tell you. [IMG]

    Holy Christ!

I was a breath away from posting a joke about not being able to make it to that show because the bridge was closed (or some other equally stuipid joke) but I thought I'd better look before I leap.

There are more cool things going on at that show than 90% of the shows I have been to in recent memory. In fact I have found some new favorites from that collection of pics. I haven't seen so many cool Kustoms in one place in a long time.

I give this post 5 stars

JAPAN will ALWAYS rule "Us" they take the "trends" from US and go undercover into shitty rice field warehouses and they get their mnig welders and produce something that "RULES". They take what we create to a whole nother level .....JAPAN choppers???
    SOME SERIOUS bikes..
OLD SCHOOL. with NEW SCHOOL thats still PURE.......

The JAPANESE give you a feeling that there is a reason to try and go to the next level,,

All the stuff is usually written off as SOMETHING they IMPORTED that was ALREADY built in AMERCA, when really the are creating TRENDS that DEFY most anything going on in our side of the world....

    JAPAN is TRUELY "KINGS"

    They OWN US

hey MAL, what do these guys/gals do for a living over in Japan? I mean, from what I understand it costs a fortune to get the cars in the first place, and then to be able to modify them etc.. they must have great jobs and make some serious dough!

Anyway.. that's REALLY COOL!! Thanks for the link..

Yeah, Germ, I kinda noticed that....saw a magazine feature about a Japanese car show some time back and what struck me is that 100% of the rods, kustoms and bikes there were RIGHT ON, Kick-ass Kool!

Their shows are smaller than ours, but ya can't beat 'em for genuine old school perfection...I found that hillarious to a fault, that the Japanese have a better handle on the whole "traditional" flavor than most Americans do! They're natural born perfectionists, pure of heart and determined beyond belief...gotta respect 'em for their conviction!

Hell, I'd buy one of THEIR rods and ship it back over HERE! [IMG] [IMG]

Thats true, but what I seem to find out is they dont dicriminate (sp) as much we Americans do, and that I find pleasing. None of this 4 door sucks attitude, or that rod is channeld to low or he is wanabe Rockabilly shit or who gives a fuck about Kulture type, they do they live it and like it. Way cool rides there Mal, looks like a way better car show then we will have here in Utah. And ditto about what is being said about their cycles, hardcore guys in my book just look at Chicas stuff...

  16. There is something I've noticed when I see coverage of Japanese car or bike events.

    Details.

Less off the shelf parts, more details. (I am guilty of this)

Also, Less fear of loss of re-sale value, they do things to complete a "look", not neccessarily to have "the right parts".

Black 32 highboy roadsters with a flatties, 3-97s, red interiors and steelies 'n caps, and quickies, although classic, the thing that sets a car apart is the details. They seem to be able to come up with new ways to use the old parts.

I'm going to tick people off if I go any further, Don't want to step in Germs territory, he's better at explaining it. [IMG]

    Thanks

  22. I was stationed in Yakota in the early 80's and you couldn't license a car unless you dove through a bunch of hoops and spent a lot of money!! [IMG]

I was more ammazed when they would literaly Knock down a wall in their dwelling (eliminating a living space!) to build a garage! Space is a rare commodity and to park a car on your property cost's a ton of YEN! [IMG]

Japan is the only place on earth where a "Rat Rod", "Traditional Rod" (what have you) will cost more than a new BMW!! [IMG]

I respect their tenacity to pursue U.S. authenticity with the Japanese flair...! [IMG]

i wonder how big our car shows would be if each person had to personally import their car from the other side of the world, jump through a thousand hoops to license it, and then work on yer car in a tiny area- how many of those cats have their own mig welder and 80 gal compressor? how many japanese pick a parts have sbc parts, never mind the rarer stuff. "hey hashimoto, ya got a spare tri power with some 94's i could have?- sure nishihata, it's right beside the double bumps over there" -sweet lookin cars

These guys build some sick shit because they're not worried about some Giant-loser-Fag calling them a Fag they just fuckin do it. And they do it BIG. these guys are not trying to fit in a "box". Fiberglass or metal, shiny or primer, bought or built, new or swapmeet. Lowrider or Kustom, hotrod or streetrod, .......... COOL is COOL!
So go out there and BUILD IT!! dont ask for approval if you like it thats all that matters.and please for god sake dont look to the BIG FAG on this site for approval!!! if you have about 3000 posts then you're not in the shop building and you're NO authority! unless i got a computer question!

    Sorry .... I ment almost 5000! posts!

  27. Not to put a damper on this for everyone but here is how all these customs in Japan work. First off (and I have 3 friends that do this and friends in Japan that confirm this story) a ton of guys here go around the US and Canada looking for old cars they then but them for say $2,000 and sell them to someone in Japan for $15,000-$20,000. Why would they pay these insane prices? Because they don't have them in Japan so its all about supply and demand (by the way old chevy astro vans go for about 30K there). So when these cars finally get to Japan these Japanese kids hire artists and graphic designers to design and then build these cars for them. So in actuallity its not that they are so creative but its just that they have money to burn and most of the owners don't do a damn thing other than write the checks! So once again, not to upset anybody but this is how they get all those cool looking cars over there.

Why don't you grow some stones and tell us who you're talking about? Or better yet just get a private room with this person and stop ruining this post. You must be really jealous of this big fag.

From what I've read the people who own old cars over there are not rich...they just love it and do whatever it takes to make it happen. Six or seven years ago I told someone (a "car guy") I wanted a hot rod and they just laughed and said it's impossible to build one for under 25 or 30 thousand! I took them at their word for a while but once I started digging I found out otherwise....and now I have a hot rod in my basement. See any parallels? So do a little research. You can't build cars or bikes like that if you don't love it.

Edit: That was originally directed at Mark but kind of works for the last post too.
