I pretty much like the change... Especially of this latest one.

    BUT:

I don't think it's necessary to show the price and subject on the first page of Classifieds. If you want to see them just open the topic and check them from there. And also as said its too sterile and old one provided a lot good info. Though, I don't think anyone is missin bttt's...

    AND:

I think there are still too many off-topic postings. When a hotrodder spends a couple hours (?) with the Board, some stupid shit is not wanted to see... There are several other discussion forums with posts like "Show me your......." Well, you know... I'm not so much into art but there seems to be some kind of "need" for that, so maybe they could be put under the own title for them who wants to see it...

    Ryan,
This is your forum & I feel that we are all guests in your world wide home;), From what I've seen during the years that I have been lurking then now posting more is that this only gets better with the continued improvements made by it's creator. Do what you feel should be done.
Thanks for even giving us the oportunity to be able to have a voice in the matter. I feel appreciated :D. The 55 Hot Rod layout idea kicks ass:cool:.

Funny, I've thought about this before too. Wondering if you were going to ever set up the HAMB like some of the other message boards I had seen. Kind of a neat idea but it's definitely cool as is. I guess either way it'll still be the best online hangout!

Sorry, I suppose that was no help at all.....

I have found that, now, I am checking ONLY the For Sale ads and have no clue what people are asking for in the Wanted ads since now I have to specifically click on it.

I think it should be left alone...... I really do....

Enough of this "everybody fits in" bullshit.

The posts that fall off the page in hours probably should anyway.... either they were a question that got answered or were just a fucking stupid post in the first place.

I think it is rare that good posts actually get lost.

Dude, the Hamb rules.... it is a melting pot. Just like America.

To divide it would be unAmerican..... hahaha

    Seriously.

Everytime a rule is added or a change is made, a part of the soul is gone...

This place used to be like the wild west. It really was a band of hoodlums.

Now its a bunch of dudes "playing hoodlum?"

Just like little kids in their backyards....

Now, its not the Hamb as a place thats changed..... it the users....

They all found you, don't cave.

Maybe you should make a sight called "Hamb Lite" hahaha

Where everyone is happy all the time and we talk about unicorns and butterflys.

That way everyone would fit in, like a giant fucking group hug.

Sorry, just fucking around. The Hamb will be good as long as it is your hands.

    But......
I like that I can look at hot rods, read about how to build hot rods, and find out where to take my Hot rod, all in one spot.

I like the things the way they are, there will be some forums I just wouldn't look at and my luck some good info will get posted in the wrong forum and I'd never see it, right now I can preview everything and only open what I want to read, I got my pages set to view 50 posts or something so its no big deal having everything lumped together the way it is

but I ain't paying the bills so however it ends up I'll still be here

You know, as I walked away I thought about archives.....

I think the hamb needs to stay the hamb....... the tech posts and picture posts and art posts and off topic posts all feed off of each other.... it rules.

BUT more archives would be killer.....
Just like tech and art but for car posts too.... and even great posts about life. or events...

that way everything stays in the hamb, but the really good posts get saved in their spot....

    -Tech
    -Art
    -Cars
    -Events
    -People

    I need to go now.....

I hear this a lot, but folks can never give me specific examples. Our front page is never more than 10% off topic and usually is much less than that.

    .....................

    Bob,

All good points. That said, I've never intended the HAMB to be a source for soul searching and personalities. I like the fact that some of that stuff has come out and kinda of oozes from the cracks, but not at the expense of good Hot Rod and Kustom content. I'm much more into cars that I am into people. I'm boring...

I think I've heard enough to know that I need to think a bit more on all of this... Thanks everyone for putting so much time into the feedback. I appreciate it.

After reading all the posts I notice one comment continues to come back. "I don't like change". But, as my wife repeatedly reminds me the only thing in this life that remains constant IS change. Now, I have seen what Ryan has done with the classified section and it is "killer" so why worry about his well thought out idea using catagories. The thoughts that impress me the most is to have a special member's section with pictured rides and/or a little more indepth idea who's who. And yes, I am wiping the egg off my face for the off comment on a post last week. Thanks to Cob I have reconsidered my closed minded approach to so many things and think I don't want to make that mistake again. Now matter what is done allyall will get used to it and it will continue to run like a well oiled clock.

You three aren't the only ones that feel this way. While I didn't spend alot of time and or money in the classified section before I still checked it out on a regular basis. The new way seems like a skelton of it's former self and seems quite strange without the replys.... like it's not even alive.

We are considering allowing replies back in the classifieds, but not until we find a way to better manage it... I think folks had a hard time understanding the effort it took those guys to run that section. No matter how loud we yelled, folks kept posting unrelated replies and BTT as much as the liked.

    More later...

  14. I agree with mr bleed, if there was an archive for threads like littleman's build, and others, so they wouldn't get lost so quick.

    ryan,

i just went back and reread what i wrote earlier. i didn't really give you my opinion, just some babble supporting my opinion.

what i should have said is that i would like to see a tech only section. that's what i'm here looking for and this would keep me from having to scan all the non-tech posts.

i don't object to the other posts; i just would like to see the tech all together and easier to spot.

there are a lot of tech posts that don't have "tech sounding" titles and a lot of non tech posts that do have "tech sounding" titles. so that leaves me (& others?) looking through a lot of posts searching for the tech.

    thanx for listening (again).

i, for one, don't mind no replies to classifieds. usually when i have a question or thought i pm the poster anyway and think that making everyone do so will keep posts more current and concise.

i realize that this eliminates corrections or additional information to be added by the original poster, but not allowing replies will only force folks to be more accurate in the original post.

i like it the way it is...

One site I frequent (NSRA UK) lets you bump the ad merely by editing the ad. This way, you can "refresh" the ad w/o a needless "bttt" post.

As it was, if you edited your ad, you still had to reply & put "bttt" or "edited" or something to tell folks to go look at it again.

The other alternative is something like Fordbarn's forum (not classifieds) where you can add replies, but the post doesn't go to the top, it just rolls.

Perhaps one of these options is the happy medium we're looking for??

    Amen.

One of the challenges for me in trying to keep up is filtering by title only - I scan the title & decide if I want to open it because I simply can't read 'em all (and don't want to). Without a doubt, the absolute single best upgrade with the previous version (5?) is the "preview" of the first few lines of the post when you hover your mouse over the title - my only complaint is there seems to be a time limit & it disappears, so if I'm reading slowly I have to move the mouse away & back on & wait for it to pop up again.

Taking this a step farther, I drop box when posting would be nice - I understand it's technologically a "bridge too far" under the current software system, but something to look for in the future? For now, perhaps see if we can herd the cats toward putting meaningful stuff in the first few sentences...wishful thinking, I know!:D

I'm with bobbleed, I would like to see more archives & active movement to the archives. One of the challenges now is effective management of what goes into the Tech-O-Matic - guys are doing a pretty good job, but it seems the size & speed makes it impossible not to miss some good stuff (& what I use "subscriptions" for...to keep track of posts that don't make it into Tech-O-Matic, but I want).

Right now, we can report a bad post with the little exclamation point thingy at the bottom - perhaps if we had another button to report a Tech post or Art post it could flag it to those co-moderators & be considered for inclusion in the archives....because I'm too lazy to PM them!:D

I like it the way it is, Though an extra section for technical would be nice, but more structured. Maybe more along the lines of a FAQ, once a post is accepted as TECH, someone could edit it down to weed out all the "cool idea" post whores before it gets put into a locked, but viewable thread in the FAQ-Tech section. Searching is a royal pain to me that I usually give up and just ask.

I replied about 100 replys ago, but...

I also don't care for the classifieds much at all. I didn't mention that earlier.

It does seem...well, bland. Plus I just realized, I have not checked the wanted section either.

As I said before, I don't like change.

There's been many good reasons for both ways, but a "melting-pot" is the best example.

    My .02 again

Oh, and Please don't change it, please!!:D

Get rid of the PM-only feature in the classifieds.

I'll bother replying to a WTB ad with a HAMBer friendly price if I think a few folks will see it. PMs are too much hassle and -one more- place I have to go check. I'd rather force using email replies than use PMs.

  22. Ryan,
Whatever you do is going to be jam up bro.

Do anything you want short of telling me to take a hike, just keep it alive. That'll make me so happy I can't contain myself.

agreed on the classifieds......the only thing that would change my mind on it would be the fact of, if it helps the mods spend more time on family and hot rods, and if it would save Ryan some jack to put towards that sharp little coupe!

here's how i see the new ads....

when they were all together, i could see things that hambrs need, otherwise, i don't sit and think of "Well, what do I have to sell right now" (i'm not a dealer and there's nothing wrong with that but most of us aren't)

point being, that i have given a few things away to other hambrs that said they needed something ONLY because I stumbled across their need while looking at FS ads.....some of the stuff i have in my shop isn't for sale HOWEVER, if i see a fellow hambr that really is needing something and i know they contribute a lot....i'll step up.....otherwise, i'll never see their need in the other section because i mostly look for things to buy... (this has been reciprocated to me MANY times over)

i'm speculating, but i would venture to say that the aforementioned "shoe" would fit most of us here........we can only help each other IF we know the other fella needs help.......we lose this with the new classifieds and I see prices rising like some of the other boards I frequent because I have no clue who the other guy is or what he's building...so I try to get as much as I can......here i try not to aks top dollar but try not to skin myself either......see where i'm coming from in all this rambling....

like most here, i'll deal with anything the MAN says to do because i respect him and i'm a guest.......i do think that it takes a big person to aks US what we think, considering we're like a bunch of Dr's and can't agree on much.......for example if Boyd Coddington is a brilliant.....kidding.....

    i'll stand down now...

Don't know if this has been suggested for the classifieds, it's a thought I have been having while checking them out here, as well as Craigslist. Put the FS on the left side of the page, and the WTBs on the right side. Then they will all be on the same page, yet seperated so the FS's are easier to veiw and we can still pick up on the WTB's with out going to a seperate forum.

Just an idea, Fordbarn.com allows replys on their discussion forum but that doesnt move the post on the page, so a "bttt" would be useless. Of course Fordbarn is set up totally different, you have to open up a new page to see each post. Maybe the thread would look exactly like the old classified, but dont allow the threads to move? Then it would be usefull for some kind of icon to show when something has been added since your last login. I'm just throwing out ideas here, I dont know how any of this magic TV with all the buttons with letters on them works.

Perhaps seperate the parts for sale from the cars for sale. My apologies if this idea is buried somewhere else in the thread.

  29. If folks have a difficult time with posts scrolling off the first page too fast would it be possible to reformat the page so that the post originators name appears in a column rather that adding it as another line of text, that would save one line per post.

Still don't quite like the classifieds.

To steal someone else's comment "I enjoyed seeing the questions regarding what was for sale. This helps generate more information about what is being sold and its good to know what questions have already been asked and answered before overloading the sellers inbox with redundant questions."

Just seems like a lack of info available in the classifieds, too much of a "new car" showroom look instead of the bunch of cars parked on the vacant corner kind of thing. I haven't even trolled the WTB section.

I think you've lost some of the "it's my garage" charm in the classifieds.

If its the off topic coments and btts that bother ya, surely you must have some additional folks that you trust and would volunteer to moderate the forums more closely .
