I think its a good idea, the one thing it doesnt need is money, it just needs parts and peoples skills. example, instead of saying, it needs a new engine, we could say, does anyone have a rusty old gasket head they dont want, then its upto someone else, to donate their skill, or time to say sandblasting it, whatever it needs. and it eventually get built part for part through charity.
anything left over goes to charity.
the car itself, well, what happens with public charity projects? like rebuilding war birds. there must be some way of ensuring no one person can "run off" with the car once its done.

On the other side, one could understand peoples dubiousness, somene may just want their car doing, theres no "official" guarantee about whats going to happen to it.

not accusing op of anything. like i said, i think its a good idea.

Wow! when someone said drama they hit the nail on the head. I think this is a genuinely generous offer that I hope will succeed, good luck. I also understand where Lucky is coming from, I lived in Calif for way too many years. Anyhow being retired and all I have little or no spare cash, so I guess I am out, But I will be watching and chearing from the bench. Good for you Bill!

  4. Crazy idea... Lets see what Ryan sez?

If by chance this is even poss... I would donate a ton of stuff.

I could help sit on it for awhile, NJ Hambers could come help for its time here. As long as we dont have any weirdo's or dummies, wait...maybe we can't do this. Hahahahaa, teasing.

The Oilers would contribute a mean chop... we have a few under our belts that you have not seen yet... coming soon! 32 roadster, 32 five win, 32 three win... Hopefully we'll be out at next years LARS.

    I'd letter this race car...

I have a title, that I could put in Ryans name, of anyone cool like Hamb Andy, etc.

I have a ton of parts... most just hangin on the wall, rather see them on a race car.

If we needed to buy some parts, I'm sure contributions could help with those.

Any other parts it doesn't have.... I can find. I don't see why we couldn't find lots of free parts, and put this together safe, then send on tour. Drag it!

Yes the economy sucks, it has hit everywhere... but I bout think we could do anything if we try.

Cool, I'm not rich I'm not poor but I do ok and I kick the occasional business goals. Other's might dream of Ferrari's and Lamborghini's and nothing else. I'd love any of those but am just as happy with a hot rod budget. What we're talking about here is the cost of a service on a new Ferrari (without parts!) I think we're so lucky to be able to enjoy a FULL automotive buzz with our "less than the cost of a Ferrari" plans.

I don't want to make light of $4,000 because I know that an amount like that can change people's lives but I'm over all that and I'm living my hot rod dream. Those of you who have followed my posts on here know I've got plenty to go on with. This is my way of giving back then standing back - though I'll definitely chuck parts in as I find them if they fit the theme of the car.

I think the most important thing is that the project progress and not be left waiting too long. So the person who puts their hand up to start this might be a metal working school or someone who is only concerned about the task and not the investment...or something like that? Or a bunch of guys (well known club?) who have the time, skill and patience to work on sheet metal and keep us updated at the same time.

How about you just build it yourself and let us know how it's coming along like the rest of the 100,000 HAMB members? I could use a nice big house with a nice big shop, but I'm not going to ask anyone to donate money, contruction materials, and their valuable time to build something for ME! I'm with Lucky on this...I'm out.

  8. My time is limited... but I still could get a lot of stuff done inbetween other gigs. And hell... there is no time limit?

I always wanted to help Andy more, like fly there and build... but couldn't.

I'd also like to seriously whack a 34 roof, and trim it for draggin! I'm in... and I got mad parts... some sitting around in the mud. Lets Race!

Wasn't this done a bit ago for HambAndy?

  10. I'm not going to go back and fourth on a thread... if you need me for a good cause, I'm in! Nothing scares me, but them again, I'm a dumb Marine.

And chopping stuff is a chore, but hell... it sure is fun. Keeps me from drinking anyway, I stay busy!

AAFD you seem to be missing the point or didn't read any of the replies I made above but let's just say it again because it's soooo much fun repeating myself...

As I stated above (quite a few times) I'm not asking ANYONE to build ANYTHING for ME. I am NOT into this for myself! I stand to benefit NOTHING from this and have ALREADY put in over $4,000 of my own money. I have stated this several times already. Please read the entire thread.

I'm waiting for it but if this turns into some crazy shitstorm from the twilight zone I'd probably request that he close it, I sell the coupe for 4c and be done with the whole thing.

  16. Bill, good on you for donating it.
Is/was that one of the two coupe bodies a guy was selling in Texas? They were here in the classifieds.

I wish you could get it here as I think it would be taken and built, hell Ben has tons of room in his shop :)
A salt car is a great idea. I would donate some parts to get a drive in that sucker.

    Thanks! 32Ford5...........

I've read the thread and every post in it. I appreciate the piece of pride you were offering me and others. I've helped friends through the years without being asked or expecting anything in return. But I always enjoyed knowing I had a part in putting another Hamb worthy rod on the road. I know that is your primary intent here.

Hopefully a fairly new shop trying to build on their dreams will pick up on it and share the profit from the completed project to the charity of your choice. In the end, it would still come back to a project you got started to show your appreciation for all the good here at the HAMB and help a Hamb friendly shop to gain some recognition to survive.

As for me, I appreciate your generosity ! ! !

    Thank you Sir'.

I think the concept I'm trying to convey is "Pay It Forward" while hopefully the build can be documented and enjoyed by all.

I believe the man to be sincere. Maybe i am crazy. The logistics are hard , but can be overcome. Probably will not come to fruition but if it does the gesture is overwhelming. Maybe Ryan has an idea how to do this properly. If the car was donated to the Hamb, and maybe shared nationwide in the states,it could be pulled off. We have guys transporting cars and parts all over. Get the thing built and have it rotate around the country for all to enjoy. It can be done..........just my 02.

  21. I am an eternal optimist :)

Beyond my Alliance membership - the HAMB has paid me
far more back in the people I have met, the places I have
traveled to, the cars I have hauled, the car stories I have heard ....

EVERY car story has a beginning - this might be a good one
    ;)

That said, if this materializes then I am in for free transport
of the body along with any parts needed to get this done :D

Subject to availability of my transport & hauling schedule

Oh man...that would be so cool. I've got my fingers crossed.

Jim! You are the man! I'm getting a few offers to start this thing. We may have a direction this needs to go very soon. Thanks!

If you dont have something positive to add, then dont. This could be a great project and end up covered by news media and our trade mags! Again a true gesture from a fellow Hot Rodder.......

Crazy or not if this gets off the ground I am willing to donate. As a drag car I will donate a 6-71 as a Hot Rod I will donate 4 Holley 94"s. I do not post often and have nothing to gain. I have enough projects to keep me busy for fifty years and enough time for two.

In a way...BUT the big difference (as I see it) was that the car we built for Andy was CLEARLY owned by Andy himself.

There was never any confusion about that...AND anyone who helped, sent money, sent parts or even sent Andy a postcard KNEW that a very sick little kid was getting a boost from it.

But I have to say...Andys Dad kicked in a LOT of effort and cash to make sure the car build slipped FAST and smooth over the bumps and potholes we met along the road. Theres ALWAYS a load of bumps in a build and there needs to be a person who's focus is on "gettin' er' Dunn" at all costs.
That guy was Chris Dunn(Dunnie)...Andys Dad.

We, the CORE builders of Andys car, made our construction decisions based on Andys wishes, varied just a tiny bit to make it drivable by Andy, AND to make sure it actually saw completion for the early summer car meets and cruise nights. (It was close...and a lot of non-HAMBER locals deserve credit for making it a reality.)
EG: Andy would have had a crash box and learned to drive it but honestly, it was more important to get him driving asap so we went with a C4. It was the right choice and he loved it.

My opinion on this possible HAMB build is it has potential but no clear goal. As it is now, I wouldn't be interested in putting the year of off-hour building into this that I gladly put into Andys car.

For this car to take off it needs a reason to exist.
    Theres no FREE RIDE.
People will need to walk away at midnight with dirty hands and a big grin, or it will die on the frame table.

    The first step?
Give Ryan a bill of sale and sole ownership.
Then HE can decide how the HAMB will connect with/dispense with the car.

Maybe theres another sick child with a dream somewhere...and a bunch of Hot Rodders local to the child, who will answer the call, commit to the build and experience all the fun of building it for him...or her!
I'd love to see it happen again, and the experience was absolutely incredible.

32Ford5...you have a big heart and a nice idea...it just needs a bit of work to give it legs!
    Thumbs up to you!!!
