Not too shabby! I usually resort to Google site-searching unless I'm using the posted by member feature anyway.

Does this mean our HAMB activity is going to be piped directly into the NSA?

  4. Dude, that's pretty nice. I've been struggling with the search on this site since the changeover, and usually end up just doing a google search and come back by clicking on the relevant HAMB threads.

If this helps the members and helps them I think it's great, but with the advanced search I never have a problem. HRP

  7. Cool, usually if I can't find a thread thru the HAMB search I use google, type key words select more results from jalopyjournal. Having the power of google search will be invaluable and time saving, thank you.

I like the fact that the Google results cover the entire site...........saves time. Funny thing is, Google searching is how I discovered the HAMB in the first place.

just some info on google and your puter , it saves every search you make from day 1 . it logs the day and time for every search you make. good news is you can turn it off . go to google search settings on your puter and adjust your settings and delete your past history

Cool - advanced search usually does me pretty good - but another tool to get to the huge amount of info on this site is always welcome - thanks Ryan & crew. Best site on the net.

not hiding anything , just don't like someone keeping track. and I don't know what they do with the info or who they sell it to

Every single public search engine... and just about every public web site "tracks" your behavior. Seriously. There isn't much you can do about it.

The google integration here will work exactly as Google.com works. As such, they are dropping a cookie. That being said, the HAMB drops one cookie - and that's the cookie that keeps you logged in. We don't track you AT ALL.

You want to talk about scary shit though - just read the Facebook TOS. The shit that they track and sell should be criminal in my opinion. I've actually had access to their marketing platform before and decided to check my Facebook profile. By tracking your likes, travel, and habits... as well as your friends likes, travel, and habits... as well as your friend's friends likes, travel, and habits... they are able to built a marketing platform geared specifically to you. From that, they know shit like:

    - where you have traveled since you opened your account
    - your propensity to buy a car in the next 6 months
    - your propensity to buy insurance in the 6 months
    - If you have kids - how many and what age...
    - etc...

There were over a 1000 fields that essentially "described" me. AND THEY SELL ALL OF THIS!

I'm not a conspiracy guy at all... no funny looking hats over here... but after seeing that shit, I closed my Facebook account immediately. Without doubt the scariest thing I've ever seen on the internet.

agree ryan , that's why I don't face book, as for google like I said you can turn it off if you go to your settings. yes they can still track you but turning it off keeps every one else out of your life like the computer repair shop, or any one that has access to your computer. cple key strokes and your whole history is there since the day you started up your puter

  17. LOL I usually get at least on HAMB page pop up when I google anything automotive anyway. Even when I google myself (porknbeaner) my HAMB profile pops up.

Anyway making it official is really cool I hope it doesn't come with too many headaches for you.

Looks like a deal. I also use Google & Yahoo search for whatever I'm looking for. Sometimes Yahoo has more info than Google. Never been on facebook & don't plan to change.

    Ryan,
That's right. fb's market value is because it's a data-mine. The mother lode for marketers.

Like Danny (HRP), I've had good success with the advanced search in use now, once I learned how to use it. And like all old farts, I git tired of change just for the sake of change.

I too like the advanced search option already here on the HAMB & I never ever plan to Facebook. Facebook helped destroy'd the integrity of our local speedway & thankfully the new owners will not have a face book account. Facebook seems kinda silly to me anyways. It gripes me to see folks wasting time on it at work when they should be doin something productive. EPA probably owns Facebook anywho. Flux

This was a great idea. For the last month or so it's been on my mind that the HAMB search is not picking up a lot of content, and some of the best stuff is getting dead-ended.

Best choice you could have made.
