Folks Of Interest The H.A.M.B.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, May 1, 2020.

  1. I've been around this place for a while. Back when I first became a member, the rat rod scene was huge and so were the duck tails. It was awesome.

When I first found this place, I was surprised by just how many people there were in the world who loved these old cars just as much as me.

Back then, I wasn't as reserved as I am now. It was easy to start a fight on a thread and get upset over stuff that in the end really didn't matter.

As with all things, life happened. I took a few years off from this place to deal with personal issues. When I came back, I was surprised once again by this place.

All of the wannabes were gone. In their place were the guys who had actually built the cars we all fell in love with from the 1950s and 1960s. The knowledge these guys still have is now only a question away.

It's very humbling and satisfying to be in a group with so many people I appreciate and respect.

I wanted to take this moment to reflect upon the things I love about The H.A.M.B. I wanted to also give you a moment to reflect and share the stories of why you love this place.

I have made some very close friends here, the rest are just acquaintances.
This place was where I learned confidence enough to build from scratch. It’s a good place.

I think it is a culmination of being around good people, even if they are on the other end of a keyboard.

SBK wondered where you went off to. Haven't seen your posts in some time. Welcome back. On a side note when we travel thru Amarillo we always eat at Dyers. Great place.

  10. Remember when every other post was about the "scene". Cuff lengths, hair do's and orca betties. I must admit I hated the "scene" back then, but I do miss looking around the public and seeing more people dressed like 50's B movie extras. I'm glad the whole RR thing had mostly faded......saw blades and bullets have no place on a hot rod.

Signed up in 2006 and have pretty much had coffee with the HAMB almost every day since! There is always something interesting to read with all the knowledge and arguing going on!:D Once I retired it turned into a couple times a day!

I saw this post and thought it would be a rant...
I was fun back then Germ, **** Reynolds, Nadz, were around.
I did the same also was gone for about 10 years. I was just watching here and there. Then matured and came back.
I like this place as an Archive of Hotrodding info, so I search a lot. Usually I find the answer.

inlove how a lot of the questions have already been answered in the past.
Also of these newbies need to learn to use the search ****on, the also need to learn to know what THEY like, not what others like for them.
I love the Plymouth thread with the car being built for his dad. "The wanna see some Kustoms thread...

What I think I like the most about the HAMB, is that if still has the feeling of the old Internet, not the IG or the FB or whatever social media is current.

I do kind of miss the feeling of “exclusivity” the H.A.M.B. had and the hazing rituals, it was like jumping the new guy into the gang. I miss Tech
Week and the incoherent ramblings of Germ. I was ridiculed by him about whatever jalopy ****pile I was building at the time and wish I could remember it better now.

It’s a kindler gentler H.A.M.B. now for sure.

I wish we still had to do an intro to join, and completely fill out the info to include where you are from.
Too many people come here, ask one question, never reply and fade away.

    because this !!!!!

the folks in here, I’ve not met most of you personally, but I consider y’all friends.
We share a comradeship of old iron and doing things.

wether washing a barn find correctly, pointing out every “ whatsit thread” inevitably is a Dodge !

watching someone rescue a old wreck with a hippo boat.

helping someone with a no start, or brakes.

watching someone build a kick *** ride out of s****s and castaways.

asking just about any technical question and getting a mountain of responses.

    place is just about perfect.

Nads actually turned me onto this crazy place 15? years ago.
We wound up becoming close friends. Even got me into his Car Club, to which I’m now the Prez
Very few CC members are on here but as a group we try to honor the same golden age of Hot Rods n Customs
Like many other long term members, I’ve learned allot, met a bunch of cool knowledgeable people and had a blast.

  29. I remember getting into an argument with someone on eBay putting HAMB stickers up for sale.....then I realized I was wrong.

I never left since I signed on...I was lucky and snuck under the radar. I was always trying to find a place like this, thinking I was the only lame one liking traditional cars in the 80's/90's.
